Freaked out!!!!! (more spam?)

I recieved this email this morning and I'm really confused now.  I DO use careerbuilder for job seeking purposes on a daily basis, and I also have a resume posted there for employers to access.  Have I been hacked or would this constitute an actual job offer?  It came in my bulk mail file inder my ISP address.  Since that last one with my real name I'm freaking out over this and I'm not all that savy with computer security issues.  HELP!!!!

If you inquire further with these people:
- give NO personal data (especially not Social Security Numbner)
- if they want you to pay for anything (brochures, special "papers", promotional info) and want a credit card - forget it
- always remember if it sounds too goo to be true......
- if they are the "leading" anything and you can't google them -- then they ain't who they say they are.

First of all anything on the net that seems to good to be true is probably just that.
I did a quick search on the net for RUSSIAN SAFARI and found three hits of the same email you got, but nothing on a company of that name. I would be very skeptical of anything coming out of Russia since there is a large corruption problem there and a lot of illegal enterprises as well. It may be a good idea to contact Careerbuilder as well. I also found this link that give the email address of Peter Fert but in is redirected to a .org address so that is also suspicious in my book and both companies have nothing to do with safari’s on is software company and the other is a home business company. Well that is my two cents and I am an IT manager so maybe it’s worth three cents.

Part time = $3000 per month?  Plus $1000 monthly bonuses?  I don't think so.

There are scammers trolling the job sites looking for victims.  To me, this looks like one of them.

I'd be careful of the 1-800 number as well.  I've heard of scam 1-800 numbers rolling over to pay numbers that can cost you hundreds of dollars.  Not sure if it's an urban legend, but not a chance I am willing to take.

A check of the phone number on www.reversephonedirectory.com shows no such listing.  Doesn't sound like a company that's been in business since 1976 if their phone number isn't listed anywhere.

A Google search of the phone number shows several entries:
 http://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-U S%3Aofficial_s&hl=en&q=800-882-3103&btnG=Google+Search

Here is the website for Russian Safari:

http://rsafari.com/cgi-bin/index.pl?target=job

and this is what screams scam:

Personally, I'd deleted the e-mail without replying.  Sounds too screwy for comfort.

Gator is right about the 800 number and it is not a myth they have had scammers use an 800 number then when you get them on the line they say they have to transfer you and that is when you no longer are on a toll free call. Some times it will be a 976 type number that charges by the minute or it is just a crooked phone company working with the scammer and charges you an outrageous amount of money for the call. They will try and keep you on the call as long as they can to get the most out of your bank account.

Ok,  Then I think what I plan to do is also forward the email to careerbuilder, to make them aware that scammers are using information from their site to garner potential victims, at worst, and at best possibly discredit their service in the eyes of other job seekers.

Thanks for the input fellas!

Pegg, I'm glad you're contacting Careerbuilders, I was going to suggest that.  The e-mail is most definitely a scam, and Careerbuilders needs to know that the information you are posting on their website is NOT secure.  It will be interesting to see how Careerbuilders responds to your message.  If they blow it off, maybe you should re-consider using them.

Not bad, Pegg.  They were quick to respond with assurances, which leads me to believe they are concerned.  Just dump the e-mail from Russia, but keep a sharp eye out on any website that you post any personal information, no matter how innocuous you think that information might be.

Dear Pegg,

Thank you for forwarding this email to our attention.  We can verify that the offer contained within is fraudulent and no further contact should be initiated with this user at this time.

Unfortunately this fraudulent company(RUSSIAN SAFARI, LLC) has chosen to use the CareerBuilder logos and email formatting to add legitimacy to their scam.
Thanks for your help.  If you have any additional questions or comments, please let us know.  We are available by email at *********
