Picture this...my neighbors house has one of those TV antennas that prongs out in two directions. After this mocking bird wrestles and tumbles and rolls all over the ground fighting off other male mocking birds, he wins the territory of his own TV antenna. He now sits up there for days singing his heart out, trying to attract a mate. Every minute or two, he flings himself about three feet into the air, flapping his wings, lands back on the prongs, then tweet, tweet, tweet, and starts again. Fling, hover, flap wings in wild motion, land on prongs, sing, sing, sing and fling again and again all day. Every once in awhile, he goes out looking for a fight with one of the neighboring males, comes back and.....you know what...more music and lunacy. Right now at this minute, he sounds like a frantic Cardinal. This has been going on for 4 or 5 days now. By the end of the day, his feathers need combing and he needs a couple of Jack Daniels on the rocks. It's enough to Kill a Mocking Bird!! (I wonder if the females ARE looking to see who drops dead first and who survives).

We have 2 mocking birds on our street. They each have their own street light to dance on. Funny to watch them try to out sing and dance each other and an occasional dive bombing of one another is comical. But, they get awful noisey and I'd like to get the pellet gun out.

Donna, that's a great description. We have catbirds here and I really love their whacky songs. Your funny description reminds me of a rufus-sided towhee that spent over six hours a day attacking the side-view mirror of a car. He was so obsessed, that when he finally had a baby bird to raise, he taught it to do the same thing.

LOL at work its like an animal sanctuary, there are ALOT of turkeys and they roost pretty close to my office. Every morning they fly out of the trees land on the road, eat a few pebbles then hang out in a field befor hitting the woods again. Well there is this one tom that must be a midget, he is about a third the size of the rest of the toms. Well every morning he is out there strutting his stuff with the rest of the birds but the hens won't have anything to do with him. I feel so sorry for the little guy.
