Pred will raise your blood sugar. After a few days (and maybe some insulin) it will go back to normal. Just stay away from sweets while you're on it and carbs. Hugs BD

I'm curious. Are you an insulin/other drug dependent diabetic or is your diabetes controlled by diet?

Maybe I'm confused, but you did say that they neuro had put you on prednisone? What does your diabetes doc say about this? EVERY thing that I have read says that EXTREME caution must be used and.... generally, use of prednisone with someone who is having difficulty controlling their diabetes (especially insulin dependent) while own prednisone is a red flag!

My diabetic Dr. does not know. The steriods is a last ditch effort. I was surprized when they put me on it, I even asked all the said was call if my blood sugar goes to high. I have urged to go to the E.r. I don't they will do anything. IS depression a side affect of all this crap?

It is up to YOU to educate yourself and then help your doctor plan your treatment. If you just sit down in front of your doctor and say "make me better" you are setting yourself up for a great deal of pain.

I agree with Jonny. You need to call your diabetes doc IMMEDIATELY (if not sooner) or go to the emergency room, explain what is going on and tell them that you are afraid the prednisone is causing you problems with your blood sugar. For prednisone, the following are the observed side effects: Minor: weight gain facial swelling nervousness acne rash Major: depression unusual fatigue or weakness blurred vision abdominal pain bloody or black stools infections painful hips or shoulders osteoporosis • Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you have · kidney disease, · liver disease, · high blood pressure or heart disease, · ulcerative colitis, diverticulitis, or stomach ulcers, · hypothyroidism, · a psychiatric condition, · osteoporosis, · myasthenia gravis, · diabetes mellitus, or · any other medical conditions. • You may not be able to take prednisone, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment if you have any of the conditions listed above.
