I can't beleive the shit I seen on the news they were doin in Texas........task force walking into bars and clubs busting people for pubic intoxication.......even busted people that were in hotel bars and were staying at the hotel and walking down the hall to there rooms !!! Got people that had drivers also and even busted bartenders that served them. Got people that walked there too and didn't drive. Guess they had to give it up for a bit but may start back up this summer and have to change a few things.....said they would concentrate on people in the parking lots more outside the bars or clubs. They did say on the news Ohio has no plan as of yet to start doin it......but that it is ILLEGAL to get a buzz in public and that you could be busted at campgrounds or anywhere if they wanted to push it. I don't get it !? I'm not a drunk and only drink when I go out or sittin out back relaxin from time to time.......but this is gettin outa hand. Shouldn't we concentrate on gettin REAL drunks off the roads......this is jus makein it too easy for cops and they don't have to LOOK for drunks. Just nail everyone ! My doc even mentiond that sum meds people are takeing could get ya in trouble and sum docs are afraid to sciprt them now. And if ya get into a fender bender ins co's won't pay if they find out your on medication even tho it is scripted doses and legal and no buzz deals. Am I dreaming Pam There takein the F U out of fun dam it !!!!!

In California the law says no drinking IN or NEAR a vehicle. If you are drinking a beer while washing your car in your own driveway you can go to jail.

I lived in Houston in the early 80's and was surprised to see the police come walking through the bar looking for anyone drunk. I thought it was a myth but locals were pretty aware of the PI law. this one's fairly new http://www.houstontx.gov/police/nr/2006/nr042706-1.htm In addition to seeking violent criminals, officers will be conducting public intoxication sweeps, DWI traffic enforcement, civility ordinance enforcement and use of bike and foot patrols. this one seems a little older http://www.houstontx.gov/police/operation_renaissance.htm Pillar 3 - Nuisance Abatement The Division Nuisance Abatement (DNA) Squad is the centerpiece of this entire initiative. The squad consists of a highly motivated uniformed supervisor and equally motivated uniformed officers, who remain flexible and willing to deal with chronic and persistent problems. Some of the scenarios addressed by the DNA Squad are: Public Drunkenness / Public Intoxication Aggressive Panhandling Suspected Prostitution Activity Persons Obstructing Sidewalks or Abusing Bus Stop Areas Consumption of Alcohol in areas where signs prohibit consumption Possession / Consumption of Alcohol by Minors Persons acting in a Disorderly or Threatening Manner (especially in front of a business) Persons Damaging the Property of Another Persons Urinating in Public Trespassers Groups of People Obstructing Access to Public Areas Possible Narcotics Activity on the Street Littering There are ordinances and laws on the second link above that can be searched.

Wild crap. In WI the limit for driving is .08 (I think, they keep lowering it) and there cannot be any open booze in the car. You also can't be in your car when "drunk" with the keys on the in the car either, even if the car hasn't been driven in weeks. So don't try sleeping it off in your car. Now I know several states that people inthe car can drink, just not the driver and some where eventhe driver can be drinking, just not drunk. Crazy stuff to keep straight.

But we live in a democracy -- this can't happen - Right? I agree Cootie - this is ridiculous. A few years back I was in a hotel in Seattle (staying at the hotel) and this other woman and I were acting "silly" - neither of us had even had a drink. The bartender refused to serve us one because he said we'd had enough - hell we act this way sober! After a "fashion" we got our one drink and managed to get to the elevator and our room. Geezzz! So now, if I have a drink in Texas (or don't have one and am acting "silly" I can get arrested for PI. Great! You'd think with all the criminals running around, the police would have better things to do, but I guess drunks are easy pickin's. Hugs BD

I believe this is being handled wrong and I will try to explain in Minnie ramble....First off driving after drinking is always a bad idea call a cab, call a friend or take turns being a dessinated driver.Around here some bars stamp the hands of dessinated drivers and you get free soda (I know cuz usually I'm the D.D)I know Linda Howell's family has been changed by a drunk driver hitting her son's car. How's he doing Linda? haven't heard a update in a while. We have cops that sit in front of bars waiting for someone to stagger from there car and start it,I believe this is fine because if they start the car yeah their gonna try to drive. We also have a problem with people getting drunk at private parties and driving instead of staying over night and do the above.then theres the back woods paties for those under age.we also have people think that driving back roads is safer no cops little traffic.Hello people still use these roads.Plus we have many who stop after work and are drunk on the roads week days, I believe police need to be on the roads not going in bars arresting people who will be walking and desinated drivers. It is easy to underestimate you ability to drive and your reflex time once you've been drinking.I know I have been guilty of the "I just have a good buzz"mindset luckily I make arrangements before I go out to drink so I don't have to rely on my mindset after drinking.I'm single and can't remember the last time I went to a bar and had some drinks.I stay home and have a wine cooler now and then but usually just have soda if I go out. This seems to me more dangerous to the enforcers than to the drinkers. I sure as hell wouldn't want to try to enforce this in Buffalo, New York barrooms after the Sabres win like they did last night. Scary I guess they'd haul me off too if I had a seizure at the dinner table in the hotel. Epileptics have this kind of problem now and then. I'm moving to Oslo and drink from Svenn's liquor cabinet. This type of information only serves to further my absolute distrust of law enforcement/cops. Things are not much better in Michigan. In Mt. Pleasant, MI cops randomly stop college students walking around in the evening and request a breathalizer test to see if they have been drinking. If they refuse they get a ticket. Total complete BS. A couple of students that were stone sober sued the police and won - justice finally. My son noticed a female student in distress and contacted the police to help her. Later the police attempted several times to intimidate my son into giving a DNA sample just to prove he was not involved with the girls sexual assault, even though they said he was not a suspect.. My son told the cop to get a warrant, which they never did. So I guess it's guilty until proven innocent (by DNA test) in Mt. Pleasant MI. Cops - F**k 'em

| My 22 yr. old was in a truck in the fast lane of a freeway in Los Angeles. A drunk (4 times the limit) hit them head-on going 70mph. He had gotten on the freeway going the WRONG WAY. Both drivers were decapitated and my son will never be the same after spinal surgery and a month in the hospital. As adament as I am about this subject for obvious reasons........THAT is not the same thing as staying in a hotel and having a drink at the bar. OR....having a designated driver....OR having a beer at a campground where you're staying. Quote: I'm moving to Oslo and drink from Svenn's liquor cabinet. Charlie |

Shew glad suma you guys didn't end up thinkin I was makein shit up or nuts......thanks for the links to it all Kev and everyone else's input with info. I am ALL FOR gettin and keepin drunks OFF the roads trust me......I'm not even a big drinker at all (yeah I do love to tho when out or on vacation and not driveing) so I'm not bitchin bout all this cuz I wanna go out and drink and drive. It''s this crap about arresting people and puttin em thru hell and expense and embarrassment when they ARE being responsible esp ones stayin in a hotel and hangin out in the hotel bar for sum fun. We do that ever so often with our group we hang out with.....we get rooms at a hotel with a nice bar/resturant so NO ONE drives and we can all sit and yak and yuk it up and have a few. Now this is illegal ? Where is it all gonna end is what I am gettin at also. A person NEEDS to have an outlet and gettin a driver to go out that doesn't drink.....or takein a cab or walkin home or to a hotel should be ok and safe. I was at my friends tavern for dinner and she "refused" a guy that walked in with some other people and stumbled....he wasn't even driveing !!!! She said she HAS to crack down cuz SHE could get in trouble. Even havein a bonfire with friends over and settin up 'camp' in yer backyard COULD get ya busted with suma this shit goin on. In town ya can't sit on her front porch with a beer.......and ya can't have a big cookout in yer back yard if there are more then 4 people or sumthin like that. Good grief !!!! I think we need to get the DRUNKS confined or put away and kept off the roads......I'm half afraid to go out now and laugh too loud or if I stumble (which I can do at any given moment anyhow with my back) without bein told to LEAVE or handcuffed and drug out. The eagle fly's on Friday and a person needs to play (responsibly) Pam Jimi.....I'm a sucker for a man in uniform !!! What if they start makein it illegal to wear sexy clothes cuz ya mite attract pervs or affend others........the list goes on and on and on and on...........

Just some FYI for convention goers - Milwaukee cops are a-holes and incompitent. If one is aorund best lay low - very bad problem here. I also go to TX for work - I am leaving next week for my latest trip - should I be worried about drinking in a bar?
