JUST A REMINDER....26 days from today, all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls. .YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS... To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222. It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for five (5) years. HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS OR GO TO: www.donotcall.gov ....tim

Thanks for the info! I think I registered earlier this year, but I'm going to do it again just to be sure.

This is not quite true. There is a Wireless 411 Directory that was being proposed by AllTel, AT&T Wireless, Cingular, Nextel, Sprint PCS, and T-Mobile. Their goal is to pool their listings to create a comprehensive directory of cell phone customer names and phone numbers that would be made available to directory assistance providers. Verizon Wireless and U.S. Cellular Corp. have always declined to participate in the proposed cell phone directory, and initial partners Sprint Corp. and Alltel Corp. have since pulled away from the project due to concerns about bad publicity and possible new government regulations. So, as of January 2005, even if the cell phone directory database were compiled as planned, at least 45% of U.S. cell phone numbers wouldn't be included. http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/cell411.asp

The fcc site takes you to the donotcall.gov site to register. Mike, I don't know what the deal is with the cell phone numbers, but I have gotten several telemarketing calls on my cell phone over the last 6 months. Primarily from visa companies selling credit card insurance and travel sites offering a 'free' trip then asking for a credit card number or a check #. Whether they plan to, or have released the numbers doesn't seem to matter these days. I've registered my cell phone numbers so I can take legal action if they continue to call. Cat

Damn, Gator another urban legend. Telemarketers will only be able to call your cells if they do not use autodialers. The directory issue you are dead right on however there is no law or ruling barring them from acquiring your # the old fashioned way and buying lists from the fine folks that sell them. .....tim

Cell numbers and their owners names addresses and account history is available on the net already. Not free, there is a charge for the info, but skip tracers use this information all the time. Heads up folks.

With my home line, I have only had 1 telemarketer since I joined the No call list and I always forget to report them. They have called 4 times over the last year or so. Also, for residential lines check to see if your state also has a no call list. Missouri does and they have funded their program (plus made money) fining those who break the law.

I have signed up for the do not call lists and I still recieve calls. Now they are from folks I "do buisness with" When I get calls from them I ask to be removed from their call list. Works like a charm. I was wondering if the donotcall.gov was a 3rd party site. Sometimes it is hard to tell the fake from the legit sites. Usually the URl gives them away but you never know. -P.
