Hurricane Season

Only a few days away. Sad to say the state of Louisiana is getting frantic. Many new policies, procedures, etc. Where the hell were these when we had time to acutally implement them? After 25 years with these folks, I really want to get a real job. It is kind of hard to almost throw away this many years, but damn if I am not ready. Maybe I can go to work for FEMA, naw couldn't do that. Think I will go into debris clean up. That looks like the growth industry

It's probably not worth going into the debris clean up bussiness, my guess is that the people who make the new policies, procedures, etc are probably already in that game.
Your season is just starting as ours finnishes and I'm glad its over, seven cyclones in one season sucks.

Talk about chasing trouble. I just copped Cyclone Monica in the Torres Strait, flew to Cairns and got it again, then arrived in Darwin only to get clobbered a third time.
Currently flood-bound in the middle of the Northern Territory and the pubs don't open for an hour yet.

Glad you folks down under are thru the season. We have about 30 days till its official. Hell I can deal with the hurricanes (I live way up north in the hills ) I can't deal with the idiots waiting till the last minute. Week before last they announced 2 "preparedness drills" one tabletop, one functional, both this month, never heard a damn word about what we need to or have to do. Maybe they will give me at least 24 freaking hour lead  . Also now I have to try and re write the non-medical part of the regional special needs shelter plan, re-do the job action sheets. Also helping set up the regional ESF-8 (FEMA emergency support fucntion 8 is medical and health section) meeting, although I won't be there. I will be in Baton Rouge for a train the trainer class so I can finish certification to teach the FEMA Incident Command, National Incident Managemnt class, and the National Response Plan Classes. Not to mention I happened to look and 10 of my 14 dispensing site Memoranda Of Understandings for stragetic national stockpile medical dispensing are expiring and need to be redone. then throw in trying to get 175 regonal people to take the 2 to 4 required online NIMS/ICS courses. And try to keep up with and report that and listen to them piss and moan about they ain't got time. Then throw in pandemic flu planning and exercises and other assorted rat killings that need to be done. Damn when I grow up I want a real job, maybe piano player at a sleeper house!
Damn, Kansas looks good. Got lots and lots of beer there

Hey Barry, yer right about getting grog and fuel in one fell swoop and it's a beaut idea. No speed limits either.
Road out of Katherine opened this morning to 4WDs so hoping to make Vic river roadhouse before beer o'clock then Kunanarra tomorrow.
Don't know what computer access I'll have from here on in but keep an eye on your north-east horizon for smoke signals.

I can sit up here and piss and moan, but I always remember the real hero's in this state are down there, whether south east, central, or south west.Pictures don't show or even vaguely describe what happened. On another note...I hate to even think about the coming hurricane season. Hopefully, I'll pick the right "home" to go to this time. Ain't nothin' like havin' you AND Jonny on my ass!

I finally got my roof repaired last month, from the Wilma damage.
Got 6 5-gal gasoline containers, changed the oil in the generator, got the batteries, got a battery-powered fan, loaded up on water, checked my hurricane shutters, stocked up on canned food, got a case of Port wine, I'm good to go!
I feel like I'm waiting for a CH cycle, with my meds lined up!

Yesterday, on my drive onto the city, I had made up my mind to resign my position.
The ongoing struggle with getting properties back up, being pulled back into a behind schedule project in Shreveport and my Dad starting kidney dialysis has me in knots. My daily planner is a work of art of an insane person.
I've noticed that my behavior goes from extreem silliness to anger and then depression. My wife catches my crying in the evenings during my walks in the woods at the back of the property. So many have lost everything and I have so much. What is wrong with me?
It's a good thing that the bridge across Lake Pontchartrain is 24 miles long because by the time I got to the southshore I had changed my mind. Instead of quitting, I decided to demand a 2 week vacation which was granted.
Headed to the Smoky Mountains to try to forget about New Orleans and the upcomming hurricane season.

Have a good vacation. Enjoy life. What happens will happen. I know what you mean. I never let anyone see me cry. I didn't lose anything in the hurricanes. I just worked, special needs shelters in the north, moved south and worked the stragetic national stockpile trying to get mecial supplies out. In 15 minutes the whole damn state plan fell apart. No state police for security, no national guard for transport. We had one damn box van on contract, then me and my counterpart from shreveport with ford excursions for distribution. You know I actually tried to write down what I saw, learned, experienced. I can't do it. Some are so wonderful what I saw people doing. Some are so horrible I hope one day to block it out. But we go on. We live. We got the worst politicians but we the people will over come even them. We will live and go on as the people of this state have always done!
You come first, take care brother!
