Hi guys, long time but I have been lurking between working and mothering. Sure miss all of you. I am now a nurse at the Cancer Center here and will be only working saturdays and sundays starting at the end of May...I am still in training at the hospital and love it! ...On my five days off a week, I will become a Mommy again. I need some legal advise if possible from ya'll....My grandson's mom lives in Georgia and I live in S.C. I am getting guardianship of Tristan so he can go to school here in August...pre-k.....he lives with me two weeks out of the month now...anyway, would I have to go thru Georgia or SC courts to get guardianship of him? The school requires me to get guardianship before August so any help would be appreciated....Also, please be praying for us....Being a Mom again is a whole new ballgame for me...been awhile since I have done this....smiles and hugs, nancyc

Hi nancy! So glad to hear that Tristan will be with you. Raising your grandkid(s) can be a mixed bag. Both extremely exhausting and equally (if not more so) rewarding. My guess... and it is mostly an informed guess... is that you should file in the state that you and Tristan will live. You will have to send all the required paperwork to his Mom to sign, but I believe she doesn't even have to be there. Once she signs, she temporarily forfeits her parental rights. Keep us posted... hugs, nani

Not sure about your laws or Georgia law but I would advise that you get a lawyer there (in S.C.) have him draw up the proper papers.....have her sign them...have them filed in S.C. and that should be it. Went through something like this with one of my employees and after he got guardianship we were able to put the child on his family health insurance. Good luck, Nancy......you're an angel. Love to you, Jacks

Wow I got nothin but RESPECT for you guys that can raise the grandkids and handle it.......your very special people for that !!! Myself I have to admit I couldn't do it......I'd crack and I feel bad sayin that but it's true. My daughter has 3 and it's all she does......she had all the kids before they could aford it or thought it out. It's not a GROUP effort with her situation cuz it's all HER job.........it's alot of work. Your a good person for what you are doing and I wish you the best with it all and your nurseing. You are gramma of the year Pam

Nancy, with most states you would have to file through the state he will be living in. Dave's son Daniel is living with is parents in Pittsburgh and all the paper work was done through Pittsburg, same thing with my son David Matthew when he went to live with his father in MD. Its not hard to do or really that involved either. The biggest thing is that EVERYONE signs off on the paper work. That means you, bio mom and dad too. Other wise its a cake walk. Let me know if I can help ya out sis. Ya know I love ya!!!!! Leesa

My advise would be to take no advise from anyone who is not an attorney. An informed guess is still a guess.
