Please help with some advice

Ok, here's the story.  Chris is working overnights and of course getting hit almost as soon as he gets to work at 10pm.  Again between 2-3am when he goes to lunch.  I have tried Imitrex injections and they don't work for me but I think he needs to give it a try.  He's not able to take a portable tank to work because he can't take the time to sit down for 15-20 minutes to do it.  I need to know how the prescription trex works.  I have only ever been given it in the ER or dr's office and have never injected myself.  He's finally accepted he needs to try the trex.  How long does it generally take to work?  Where do you inject yourself?  Any info you guys can give to prepare him for this will be extremely helpful!  Please help me help him!  I'm feeling very helpless here.  KUDOS to all the supporters out there... this is a tough job!   Cry

Thanks in advance guys!

Well they do have statdose packs where you just hold it against your thigh and push in.  It works in aprox 6-10 min.  I have found the nasal spray to be almost just as fast and effective and NO needles.  Good luck!

First, start like I am. Get a few sample packs from the Doc. Get the "Stat Pen" and liquid vials. A stat pen is spring loaded and snaps the needle into your arm before you can chicken out. You flinch, (at least I do) but I keep the needle in there for 5 seconds.
You can shoot your arm, or the outside part of your thigh. It will take up to 20 min to totally work, and for me causes the hit to spike upward until it fades. (no  one told me that part, which is why I mention it. not everyone has this reaction)

Hope this helps

The  trex shot needs to be under the skin but not in muscle, so if you are like me with 17% body fat, you need to find a place to inject with some fat under the skin. I started using my arm but it would take an hour to work. I shoot in my stomach now, with the needle at an angle to get to the fat layer. This is of course with syringes. The stat pen's needle is shorter and will work straight.

A quick trip to the men's room.  Statdose pen a must in a hurry-up situation.  Turn, lock and load.  Aim for the place with the most fatty tissue.  For me, that's my thigh.  I also prefer the thigh, since it's right there in front of me.  Press pen against the skin and push button.

Relief varies for different people.  For me, 5 minutes.

It should be noted, though that side effects also vary.  After a Trex inject, I'm totally exhausted and feel the intense need to veg for about 30 minutes - or at least until my hair isn't on fire anymore.  Perhaps for work, the nasal spray might be better - at least at first.

Good luck and keep us informed!

Zomig NS works just as fast as a trex shot for me.

I shoot on the hiney, just below the belt line. Usually less then 5 minutes and it's winding down. I get the snakes under the skin feeling but not really bad, nothing I can't work through. I use the stat pen also, very convenient takes all of the thinking out of the equation. I am back in service withing 5-10 minutes of injecting. I carry a firearm at work and the imitrex doesn't compromise my working ability. Hope it helps him!!!

Chris is making an appointment for Wednesday or Thursday with his dr.  Going to request both the trex and the nasal spray so he can try both.  Next thing will be wrestling with good ol' Wellpoint - the pharmacy management company and my employer.   Roll Eyes  Should be interesting.  I may be unemployed before this is over with.

5-7 minutes if it is going to work at all for me.
I personally don't dig how I felt after any triptan.
I also used zyprexa which worked as quick as any of the triptans that I have used and didn't make me feel gnarly afterwards. It's also much cheaper.

Good luck and hope relief finds you both quickly!!!

Inject in Deltoid, on the side of pain, relief 2 to 3 min.  If I use 2mg of injection, in most cases still effective and less side effects(whoozy, dizziness, nausea, tiredness, heart palpitations, etc) recovery time 5 min and you are back to the job again.

Imitrex tip on the left is great! Smiley
