Once you get past the nasty stuff about what those protesters from Topeka are doing at these funerals to read on about this group "The Patriot Guard", and how they're responding....God Bless them. Gave me chills.

Great story from the Detroit Free Press.

YES!!!!!!!  and God bless the Governor of Kentucky, who signed a law Monday to force protesters to keep their distance from military funerals in his state.

He did this because of the members of this Baptist church in Topeka, Kan. who demonstrate around the country at funerals for soldiers killed in Iraq.

Yep he did! We don't play that crap in the Bluegrass. I live just north of Ft. Campbell. That Army base has had more than its share of those ceremonies. Our Governor did the right thing.

I am so glad to see this. There is a need for it.
Remember me telling you all that my Daughter had problems with all that when her husband was killed.
The bad part is they call you on the phone as well as sending nasty letters.

These guys (and gals) are awesome. God bless them.

As far as the protestors are concerned -- maybe we should show some Christian chairty toward them, but right now I just can't see any way. don't they realize that this family has LOST a loved one (regardless of how anyone feels about the war). Respect for the family should come first. If they want to protest they should go to Washington.

This Patriot Guard should be commended highly.

California has a group of the Patriot Guard here.

This idiot in Topeka, Ks. and his members have sub-groups... if that is what you want to call them, all over the US.   SCARY!

Our "Governator" in Calif.  would be very wise to follow what Kentucky has done.

Good for them. Too bad it's necessary.

I still don't get this goofy supposedly Jesus Jolly guy and the pea brains that follow him around. You're not supposed to make things harder for people. It's not what I think of as Christian behavior.

The Patriot Guard has the right idea in dealing with this bunch of wackos.

But passing laws against their obnoxious behavior is the WRONG idea. More erosion, more limits on the First Amendment does not serve the cause of liberty and democracy. Such a law is pending in the Pa. state legislature as well; I hope it dies in committee.

In fact, I sometimes wonder if the real agenda of this apparently loony preacher and his cult is to erode the First Amendment by exhibiting behavior so offensive to lead us to forget how important it is to protect even the most unpopular of viewpoints.

Neo-Nazis can march through Jewish neighborhoods, the Klan can hold rallies in black communities, these clowns can show up and spout hate at funerals and memorial services for fallen soldiers and victims of diasters....and that is as it should be.

Because our society may decide, someday, that the views and opinions you and I hold are too offfensive to allow to be spoken.

That will be the end of America as we know it.

Hey, more opportunities for them to be staring down the barrel of another lunatic's gun, because there are just as many of them too. Wink

Natural selection, ain't it grand?

I'm sorry, but it seems there ain't no such thing as respect to the mourning anymore and it pisses me off. Angry
