Flying Tips

Ok....I am flying for the first time during a cycle. My HAs are not too bad these days thanks to verap and melatonin. I will be bringing my Imitrex (inj), Maxalt (dissolvable, in case the airline doesn't allow the imitrex) and ultracet (helps the nerve pain a little) on the plane with me. I will also bring a script for O2 for when I get to Massachusetts (I can get anything else written or transferred while I'm in MA, if needed). (Side note: I will be taking sudafed for a cold I have.) Now that I have said everything I plan on doing, any other tips for flying. It was way too expensive to get access to the airlines O2, not that I will need it.

I have flown twice while in cycle and know about the chrg for O2 on the plane. I don't think the Imitrex will be a problem. Diabetics need needles. One thing I wouldn't do is have any booze before or during the flight. You probably know that. I also try to keep the pressure in my ears clear. Haven't been hit on board but at the Hotel later on. My O2 supplier has set me up 2 times in Vegas. Relax and have a greeat flight. Skyhawk5

| Worry not dude....I have walked on plenty of planes with Trex shots in my carry on and I have never had a script for the shit. Just have your script

Yeah I flew from Philly to Florida 6 months after 9/11 with a handful of 3cc syringes w/1" needles in them for my DHE injections. Didn't realize until I was at the gate that I had that in my backpack! I didn't have a script with me, but nobody said a word. Was rather surprised, but they either didn't see them in my bag or figured it was for meds. Good luck and have fun!!

One more "Nope" on the Imitrex taken on board here. You should have no problem at all. A tip for you though.... If you get hit, go straight to the bathroom, yeah I know it;'s small. Kneel down and take deep breaths into the little air vent which is blowing cold air. It's not 02 but it's cold and it's air and it's as private as you can get on a plane. Linda

I carry a note from my doc that says I may need O2 (and at 8-15 ltrs with a mask) and that I carry syringes and medication for Cluster Headaches. I've never had to use the note, but just in case some nosey security guard gets nasty I've got it. When I was on trex, I just shot up in my seat if I couldn't get to the bathroom (and when you go from 0-10 without warning you can't always get to the bathroom). Didn't give a damn what anyone thought - just kill the pain. One time an attendant tried to cop an attitude with me about it, but mine was bigger and she backed off. She was worried about the syringe being disposed of properly. I think everyone on the plane knew I didn't have HIV before I quit yelling at her. (That was before the little pens). I've traveled around the world with these things, so just make sure you have scripts handy when you land in a strange place and have a note from your doc in case. Other than that don't worry about what anyone thinks. Hugs BD

Thanks guys. I think Im with Jonny on the bathroom thing but I WILL keep it in mind. I just (after I posted this topic) got hit with my worst headache (not quite a 10) in over a month. I am also not that shy that I wouldn't suck on the oxygen thingie above my seat if I thought it would help. Anyway, I also travel with a physician and I can get a note faxed to the airport if need be. I have the easy injection thing, so I don't think it will be a problem. You guys rule. Thanks again for the info, I would be terrified to even try and travel if it weren't for all of you. I look forward to meeting a bunch of fellow CHers.

Jonny I was only referring to getting him some air, you dork....of course Trex would be the 1st. thing. He was concerned that he couldn't get 02 on the plane. That little air vent in the bathroom has saved me a couple of times. Plus the bathroom is a hell of a lot better than trying to stifle a hit sitting next to some idiot who is looking at you like you were an alien. Linda

| Or...as on my flight home from Nashville (DC to Philly leg) - a big huge guy sleeping and snoring in the aisle seat, so I was left with nothing but the window to bang my head on. Don't know how he slept through 2 attacks.... LOL
