No more PF days...

...because the beast is back. I've had symptoms since the dentist appointment on Thursday. But, being the Miss Optimistic who I am, I kept on telling myself that what I'm experiencing is just reaction to the dentist appointment and nothing more. Well, major hit on Monday, 3 on Tuesday, 2 today... I can't keep on lying to myself anymore. PF time is over for the time being and I have to face the fact that the devil is here again. I can't say that I'm happy about this... But I'm not devastated, sad, depressed, angry or afraid. I'm just... frustrated. I really don't have the time to suffer from ch right now. But CHit happends. We all know that the beast doesn't respect plans, it does what it likes and it comes and goes like it wants to. And I've decided to carry on living inspite of it. And I've decided to kick the beast without meds as much as I possibly can. I know that lots of folks in here have dealed with the devil without them and all the suggestions and advices you guys have will be appreciated. I wish PF time to all my sisters & brothers in pain. Together we fight! Best wishes & PF time to us all, Sanna

Awesome optimism Sanna! You'll make it through sweets, I know you will. As for me, I went med free last cycle just taking Kudzu as a prevent and O2 to abort. It was actually a pretty mild cycle when I got the Kudzu dosage right and ordered a Clustermasx. If there's anything I can do, let me know!! mel

I hope so very much that I'm back being episodic, though... But episodic or chronic, at least I have access to my support group daily and skype works, yahoo! Sanna

.......yeah, it was probably just a couple of those "stray hits" and not really a "cycle".............I've used that one on myself before. I've been pretty lucky without the meds using Kudzu, red bull and O2 too. But, there are some hits where "med-free" is over-rated and a good ole' shot of trex can be the difference between a night's sleep and your "med-free girl scout badge". Scott

Sorry that this thing is back but since you want to fight this horror without meds; try my technique. It has worked and the worst thing that can happen is that it won't. Keep trying it though. That's how I found out that it helped: I am not sure what mechanism is triggered by this but whatever it is, at least indirectly helps kill the pain. I do know that this technique has nothing to do with meditation, relaxation, or psychic ability. It is entirely physical and takes some work. It involves concentrating on trying to redirect a little circulation to the arms, hands, or legs. It can described as a conscious circulatory flexing. Increased circulation will result in a reddening and warming of the hands. Try to think of it as filling your hands with redirected blood. The important and difficult part is that it has to be done without interruption through the pain. Do not give up in frustration. It may not work on the first try. Every now and then it will work almost immediately. I lived for those moments. Try experimenting between attacks. You will find that it gets easier with practice. I was given less than five minutes instruction in the use of method. The doctor, while placing his arm on his desk, showed me that he could slightly increase his arm and hand circulation. After several attempts, I was able to repeat this procedure and use it successfully. I have had about a 75% success rate shortening these attacks. My 20 minute attacks were often reduced to 10 minutes or less. Once proven that I had a chance to effectively deal with this horror, I always gave it a try as I had nothing to lose but pain. Perhaps it will help if you think of it as trying to fill the arm as if it is were an empty vessel. I used to try to imagine I was pushing blood away from my head into my arm. Use your imagination. There is one man who wrote that his standing barefoot on a concrete floor shortened his attacks. This may be similar as it draws some circulation away from the head. Cold water, exercise, or anything affecting circulation, seems to be worth a try. My suggestion is to not let up immediately when the pain goes. Waiting a minute is probably a good idea. So long as you do not slack off, this has a chance of working. This technique is very useful while waiting for medication to take effect or when none is available. It costs nothing, is non-invasive, and can be used just about anywhere. It is not a miracle but it helped me deal with this horror. It can be a bit exhausting but the success rate was good enough for me and a cluster headache sufferer will do just about anything to end the pain. It gives us a fighting chance. Charlie

Hey Sanna, You have been here for us so much, we are now here for you. I was med free for most of my life. Here are some things I use. Slam some kind of energy drink, like RedBull. (i have tried lots of others, but RedBull seems to work the best) An herb tea, called "Thinko2. (it has ginko in it, which is supposed to help bring oxygen to the brain) Kudzu Extract has been amazing. (I use Solaray, as it has 150 mg kudzu Extract, while the other I can get locally does not have much in it at all.) O2 is something you should have. I have tried the immetrex injection for the very first time this weekend. It took over 20 min for the hit to break, but finally did. We are here for you, Sanna. You can do this. Lance

Thank you all so much for your support and advices! I've saved Charlie's method and that beautiful angel Tim posted. I'm thinking about stocking up Red Bull... It will be interesting to see how I react to it as I don't have caffeine in my diet. Can't wait to kick ch fairwell! Wishing everyone PF time, Sanna

The beast has picked three times it likes to attack this time around... Interesting. I hope that it's a sign that I'm episodic again and that the cycle ends in a few weeks/months time. Carrie, thank you. I'll bug you sometime soon, I'm sure of that. Charlie, thanks once again for sharing that method. It helped me a lot last night! I got hit 23.45 and with the help of that technique I was PF at 23.55! It was hard to concentrade (I had a kip , but it worked wonders! Best wishes & PF days, Sanna
