Ahh, the joys of being a new parent. Up all night until 630 this morning ( think I walked 26 miles in my kitchen), at 630 this morning me and baby finally settle down for some sleep.... and the jackhammer starts at 8am right outside my bedroom window. Of course the baby sleeps right through it. I think he has his days and nights messed up or something. I'm exhausted. Now I'm off to bring the dog to the vet. Fun. Fun. Just a little venting going on. Thanks for listening.

couple of hints that may work,I know you probably get lots of advice but here goes.Babies do sometimes get their days and nights mixed up so change your bath routine if you give him/her a bath in the morning give one at night or vice versa. swaddle them up in a blanket sometimes the (binding?) helps. My girls loved it. A baby swing can be a God send also a ride in the car but don't if your too tired. A CD with heatbeat sounds or white noise may help. I know I had a hard time with the sleep when they sleep thing but you do need your rest.Remember this too shall pass and you'll look back at your time alone with the baby at night fondly.Lack of longterm memory is how the human race survives.we forget the labor, sleepless night and really stinky diapers and fondly remember the good times.hugs to you and the little one, Minnie mom of 7 and 9 year olds that remembers fondly holding my non-attitude,non-talking back little angels.I see a baby and I still want one...a baby not a toddler, kid or teenager LOL

When our son - Michael was born we were treated to nearly perfect habits when it came to his sleeping. We would put him to sleep around 9:00PM and didn't hear a peep from him until 5:30 - 6:00 the next morning. When Janessa was born... What a rude awakening we received when we discovered she was the complete opposite. She wanted to sleep all day and stay up all night from day - one. Mary Jo took the brunt of this but I centainly wasn't immune. The the nap during the day thing when Janessa would doze off was sometimes the only salvation. I was switching between night and daylight hours in my job so we could somewhat work together on this. We got the best results from finding everything possible to keep Janessa awake during the day and not allowing her to doze off. Instead of a stroller we carried/kept interacting with her, avoided car rides as much as possible, kept her stimulated (play, crowds, noise, etc.). She was often cranky/we were often exhausted (it's amazing how much resistance a baby can put up) but we finally managed to get her sleeping patterns adjusted. Hang in there - it's a war of wills, the one advantage you have right now that you will lose later in life is that you can still out-think em'. Tom

Can't agree with the girl being a dream. My grandson was the most wonderful baby I had ever seen. Everything went so well with him, that my daughter's friend said "don't have another one, it will be the child from hell" Well guess what. 3 years later and here comes adorable little Emily, child from hell. Fortunately, she is 7 now and is a sweet little girl, but the first 3-4 years were a real challenge. Heed Nani's advise. Sleep when you can. Other things can be done with the child on your hip. Well, last night was little better. I stuck him in front of the TV in his bouncy chair and he slept almost all night. Like father like son... LOL. I'm sure it will get better... it was just the whole jackhammering thing that set me off. Thanks for all of the advice. oh and Don, you suck.
