Ok, here's a kicker. Not only was he in the military, but he worked at the exact same paper mill as my Grandfather, Father and now my husband. This is too weird...

http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~szmatlok/matlackgrave.htm http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~szmatlok/matlackgrave2.htm This is the first of my clan in the US, his Dad is buried at St Giles Church in Matlock England. Its amazing what can be found on the internet. A guy named Joe Matlock in Kentucky has a the whole family in his database, everything from Family bible entrys, census records, wills, military information, ect....We are going to go see if we can find the grave when we go to england in Sept, its right down the road from Helens home.

We am looking forward for it, thats for sure. When we get there Mary and I are finaly going to get our honeymoon, we are going to stay at a bed and breakfast at Matlock Bath for a night or two. Keep looking, try rootsweb on your search that is where I was able to tie my family research to others. The history is so neat.

Sorry I know this is off topic, but Matt when are you going to England in September?? I'm going to England in September and staying with Helen, too!! I believe the conference I'm going to is September 18-20, so I'll be there around then. Very cool about both of your family roots stuff. We have a family tree that goes back to the 1500s on my maternal grandfather's side of the family. That includes Josiah Bartlett who was one of the signers of the Declaration. He was a physician from New Hampshire. I absolutely love geneology stuff - will have to dig ours out at some point. I'd wanted to join the Philadelphia chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution because of Philadelphia having Independence Hall and all of the history of being our nation's first capital. I probably wouldn't pursue DAR stuff except for the fact that Philadelphia is such a neat place to do it!! Carrie

That will be cool!! I'll be there that whole week - I guess it's up to Helen to decide if she can handle us all!! I could always try to stay with Mike Pollock, too - he's offered housing - but Helen and I were planning a blast of a time! I thought I'd told her the dates of the conference, but I wasn't sure on the timing of when I can go over there. Now I know that based on our vacation schedule, I have to take off that week, so I will be there the whole week. We'll figure it all out!! I don't want to intrude if you guys already have plans...would just need a place to go if Helen can't house me any longer! Carrie

We had originaly planned on staying at a motel near her, but she wouldn't hear of it. That can still be done, there are 3 of us coming and I wouldn't wan't to be a burden.

We'll figure it out.... I was planning to possibly stay with Mike P during the actual conference but with Helen the rest of the time. However, it was in the fall I made the decision, and we hadn't made definitive dates and plans because I was waiting to see if I would be allowed to take the time off from work. Let's not worry about it tonight because now I'm getting anxiety and I have to go to sleep so I can get up at 4:50am for work. LOL Hugz, Carrie

| I used to sell cable to CPI and I visited one of their plants (not sure which one). Sounds strange, but I thought it was cool to see how they made paper. I want to say it was Stevens that I visited, but I can't be sure.

| Stevens Point? That's the name of the town. Arn't the machines huge?? It's a dangerous job. There was a guy about 6 years ago who got pulled into one of the machines. Stripped his skin right off his arm and ground it up to the neck. My husband had his neck while the others tended to the rest of him. The guy is OK, but a LOT of scars. It somestimes sucks being a millworkers wife.

mmmmmmm don't you just love the smell of a papermill in the morning. I worked at the IP mill in Domino for a couple years, even your car gets that smell after awhile. For those that have never smelled it they use hydogen sulfide to digest the wood into fiber and chlorine to bleach it white. Add it with the other chemicals and byproducts and you have a not to nice smell that you can smell 20 miles away...........if the winds right......... talking abot injurys at a papermill, several years back an emplyee fell (or was tossed they never determined which) into a digester tank in Domino. All they recovered was some teeth, his glasses, buttons, and a gall stone. Not much for a burial......

My great grandfather disappeared for 45 years and came home at about 80. His father, Stephen Gaster, disappeared and never showed up again. I wonder if they had ch.
