Teaching, sort of a bump with a question.

I have spent the last two of my weekends off teaching the 48 hour national refresher course for paramedics. Today I saw a first it was the new up-dated standards for the national registry, so it had some new PowerPoint stuff that I had not seen.
Anyways I came to the part on neurological disorders and there was a part on headaches and Migraines and it listed also Clusters (by name) no joke I was shocked. Well I proceeded to tell the others about them and give them ways to help people who suffer from CH.
The PowerPoint did not give the remedies or treatment, but I made sure to emphasize that these were unlike migraines and that the best thing you could do for these people was provide them with 100% O2 by nonrebreather.
Anyways I just wanted to share with you that the progress may be slow but at least now Clusters aren't only being taught to Doctors now it was starting to be seen by prehospital providers and recognized.

Now that's cool. Just having you providing this infomation is good news indeed. My son is taking his paramedic tests in the next months and he is aware of my condition as well. I would be glad to have you instructing him. Get out the news. Wink

GREAT news!!  I know I've had to fight on more than a few occasions to get 100% O2 via nonrebreather at 15 LPM because the nurse, tech, medic or whomever it was said they had to wait and ask the doc.

We won't have to wait in unbearable pain for O2 via nonrebreather if more people besides physicians know about its use for CH.

Good job, Rodger!

Ok this is not a bump for recognition. This is a bump for educational purposes.

I would like to know what you all use for abortive at home. Not Imitrex. Or Oxygen. I would like to know pharmacological abortive that some of you use that may be useful on an ambulance.
Most Carry Verapamil in liquid injection form for blood pressure and A-fib (heart dysrhythmia). Ask your neuro if this may be useful if a loading dose were given IV. Any input could prove useful. Hell maybe I can get published with a study. Then I would be a real nerd.
