Ummmmm....Car Advice Needed!

OK Don't laugh at me...at least not to my face. What if I were to say, accidentally put antifreeze where washer fluid goes? Not saying I did this...but if there's a chance the unmarked plastic jug of ecmo cooler green stuff wasn't washer fluid, then I need to know: 1. how bad is this? 2. what do i do to fix it? 3. is my father going to kill me? 4. will my car work when i go outside to leave for work tonight? After a 12 hour shift in critical care babyland...well, I'm hoping I didn't just do something really dumb!!! Any advice is greatly appreciated!!! Carrie

........sorry......LMAO! 1. how bad is this? on a scale of 1-10... a 1, as far as car probs. go. 2. what do i do to fix it? detach the washer fluid container from the car and rinse it out and then refill with washer fluid would be my guess. 3. is my father going to kill me? for what? 4. will my car work when i go outside to leave for work tonight? um, yeah, unless you put antifreeze in the gas tank too

Well it is not that bad...just a little..it wont hurt your car maybe a little hard on the paint from over spray....and your windshield is going to be greasy..Antifreeze is not oil based but it acts similar when on glass...After you get the antifreeze out of the container..(syphoning may work) you will need to rinse it out...if you have washed your windshield with it...it will smear and smug...the best remedy for this is to pour a "coke" on your windshield and wipe it down this acid will eat off all the oil and other stuff... | Um, sure, it's not going to kill your car to leave it for a bit. And do you have a ratchet set or those star thingies?? LOL Otherwise, I'd say call a local autobody shop and see if they'll do it for you. That is...if you can stand being embarrassed for a little bit. OR, you can look on the web by doing a search on the make and year of your car, and "how to removed washer fluid container", or something to that effect. p.s. forgot to mention that you probably want to use a degreaser to clean it out.... I think maybe just siphoning it and then fill it with some degreaser & water and then siponing it again and then filling it with washer fluid might be an option you could handle, like Rodger suggested... P.S., my hubby has a whole buncha tools, so I just go out into the garage and find the one that looks like it'd fit, LMAO.

My God Mel - you're absolutely not just another pretty face! I'm impressed! If I'd done that - I'd be standin' in the middle of the driveway hollerin "Hey Hon, I screwed up something with the car"! I figure God invented men for vehicle maintenance and lawn care - might as well put their somewhat limited talents to use. Oh C'mon guys - you know I'm only kidding!!!

On most cars you are not going to be able to do anything but siphon it out as Chewy says. Don't use you mouth as it is poisonous. The best thing to do is unhook the hose at the bottom of the tank and let it run out but that is impossible on today's stupidly designed cars. For now just don't use you washers, other wise you are going to make a mess. If you can siphon it, then remove all you can, refill with clean water, and do this until what you remove is clear. Remember to fill with new washer fluid, and then run the washer to get out the antifreeze and rewash your windshield. Opus/Paul

DO NOT use the washer! I repeat, DO NOT use the washer. Antifreeze is a great paint remover. DO not get it on any painted surfaces. Drain it and flush it. Then drain it and flush it again. Then repeat. Go find the 'unmarked plastic jug' and throw it away.

Here's a hint... Next time you open an unmarked jug and find it filled with what looks like glow in the dark green nuclear waste from the Simpsons, and smells sweet enough to kill a cat... Don't put it in your washer fluid. PFDAN............................................ Drk^Angel

BOBG SAID IT BEST DO NOT USE THE WASHER THE ANTIFREEZE CAN EAT THE PAINT. THE ANTIFREEZE IS IN THE LINE AS WELL AS THE RESERVOIR. DO THIS. GET A TURKEY BASTER.iF YOU CANT GET IT ALL THE WAY IN GET A NARROW PLASTIC FLEXIBLE TUBE AND ATTACH IT TO THE BASTER IF YOU CAN'T GET THE RESERVOIR OFF AND HOLD THE PLUNGER DOWN AND GET THE STUFF OUT THAT WAY. IT MAY TAKE YOU A WHILE. GET A LOT OF TOWELS AND LAY THEM ON THE FRONT OF THE CAR AND THEN ALOT MORE. YOU WILL HAVE TO FILL THE RESERVOIR UP WITH WATER AND KEEP SPRAYING UNTIL YOU HAVE CLEARED THE LINES AS WELL AS THE CONTAINER. DON'T LET IT SIT ON THE PAINT! DOGBURT

Ok Burt quit screamin (cap locks on means that).....jus jokein.......anyhow the big turkey baster thing is a good idea cuz somea them are huge......or one of the plastic syphon concoctions for draining aquariums maybe you can buy and jus toss out. All it is is a half 1/4 inch round clean tube with a plastic bottle type container at one end. You can lower the container end and it will draw fluid to get it started (I used to use one when I had fish) then just hang it into a bucket but don't spill any cuz it is DEADLY to pets even if they get a little bit on there feet and lick it off. Even motor oil will kill a dog or cat if that happens (a friend just lost a pup doin that with the oil). Antifreeze is nasty shit....I bet it'd even stop superman Pam Brad who knows nothing about cooking anything put milk in his tomato soup he tried to make himself for lunch......gag......so he had tomato sauce soup. We all do stupid stuff..................

How come all you "immediate" people didn't post this morning before I went to bed? LOL Well I'll have to check out the paint situation here shortly as mjy alarms have just started going off for me to wake up. It's an old car, and I use it to drive in and out of the city - granted, I don't want paint peeling off it in huge chunks, but a little paint here and there isn't going to hurt it. The car was only $3000, but it's all I've got and I was mainly concerned with not doing something that would damage the car's ability to run. Tonight when I go to work, I'll get a big syringe and some tubing that I can use to drain it out. Because I live in an apartment, my resources for car fixing are extremely limited - and unfortunately at the time I have to go out and buy things or ask questions, the stores are mostly closed round here. I think getting the 60cc syringe and extension tubing should work for my purpose. I didn't fill the container by any means. Thanks again! Carrie

| No, I won't. Not after I once put power steering fluid in the brake's master cylinder, realizing after a short drive. Don't ask, finding someone even willing to tackle the job was the hard part.

| I'm not going to laugh Carrie, I once completely rebuilt the heads on a truck I had, just to find out all it needed was a new distributor. If you had told me you had antifreeze on your windshield, I probably would have offered to replace the heater core, so if you find yourself in need of a complete, uneeded engine overhaul, give me a shout.
