pain patch "HELP" !!??

I dunno nuthn bout usein them........my new doc we both went to meet has sum interestin views on pain medications and ch.......didn't agree with sum stuff and I DEFINETLY spoke my views. Anyhow....am borein you all again I can tell......any tips on the duragesic patch I can use ? Like best place to stick it so it will stay ? I can't even get bandaids to stay on my skin but it's prolly the after shower moisturizer stuff.....ech ? I got waterproof tape to have in case it won't stay. But where to put it.....esp so it doesn't look dumb and show if I have on a cool shirt. Mite rub too much on my upper arm ? I am jus SOOO confused. Stopped taken everything cold turkey knowin how contraveral docs are on meds ESP in this area. Glad I did even tho I've had a rough day.....was afrad to stick a patch on and go run errands cuz I don't know what it mite do !??? Caustious as hell coots
Doc wants Brad to quit smokein.........
Oh yeah......can ya have a few beers when out and wearin that patch thing (not real thrilled about all this cuz it is unknown territory).......stressed out Brad says HI by the way. (job stuff)

Well, make sure you don't have lotion on whereever you put it, for starters!  You can pretty much put it anywhere - lots of people wear it on their upper arm, but if that's too obvious if you wear a sleeveless shirt or whatever, you can put it on your back, the side of your hip, your thigh, your abdomen...pretty much anywhere! On the babies we put patches on their thighs, but most adults I've treated have the patch on their upper arm.
It'll all be okay....

There is adhesive skin prerp you can get from the pharmacy or online. If you know any nurse friends ask them because the hospital will have lots of them.

Yee gads... don't put that patch on skin that has other chemicals (lotions) on it already. The medicine in the patch is delivered through your skin because it is mixed with other chemicals that cause your skin to absorb things into your blood. I don't think you want skin lotion *inside* your veins.

Your suppose to wear it on the upper half of your body. The company that makes the patch no longer makes covers to apply over the patch to make them stick better so what I do is alternate between my shoulders and use athletic tape to make it stick. Otherwise if you don't put something on there to hold it in place besides the little bit of sticky that comes on the patch it will fall off in showers or when you sweat. So invest in athletic tape. Any other questions just ask.
It is an opiate. Not sure what dosage your on. I am on 50mcg. The drs don't want you drinking while on this. If you do I was told to limit it to 2-3 drinks. I would ask your dr or pharmacist about it. It will vary depending on your dosage and dr.

Thanks guys.......yu guys are always so much help.....and ya've put up with me all these years ta boot !! I did buy THREE kinds of waterproof tape stuff....asked the pharmacist which tape was best for the patches and she didn't seem to know and said they would all work ? (gee thanks for the advice) So I bought one that is skin color for 3 bucks and two cheaper white ones. So far so good but that patch was NOT goin to stay on it's own. Took about 5 hours and I didn't feel as DAMAGED. And they really don't mess you up AT ALL.......I was nervous bout that !!! Seems Brad's partner at work thinks I am a bit WIERD for not seeking surgery for my back and neck (he said fusion would FIX it all completely) and I jus know he is prolly thinkin I prefer DRUGS and be dopey or sumthin. People jus don't understand.......not even sure it is worth tryin anymore. Cuz that is SO FAR from the truth. With all my friends and biker friends it'd not go over cuz they do "NOT" like druggies......sum of the burley guys drink TEA when we go out ! (unless were campin or they aren't driven they'll have a few beers) On the road again Pam
PS: my new doc advised low dose hormone theropy verses the mega big bucks script calcium vit D pills.....he said it is SAFE ???? Any ideas on that one ? Me so confused.....................

Just make sure your skin is dry and with no lotion, the lotion will make it not stick.
Get a docs opinion on your back, other people have lots of suggestions (fusing your spine for example), but what do they know? Besides if you have your spine fused, you wouldn't be able to move!! No bending, no turning, etc. Check it out with an orthopedic surgeon.
Use some waterproof tape to seal it to keep it on, and don't use the same place twice in a row. The low dose is it delivers is constant, and chances are, you won't even feel it, but it will get rid of most of your pain.

Pam, thats what all doctors say. I dropped something on my foot once, and the doc said if i stop smoking, it would feel better. What an idiot.
Krista has a medical condition that requires her to take narcotics every day. I dont have a problem with pain pills, but they are addictive and are, after all, a drug. So i have been asking her to find an every day pain med that isnt so addictive or controlled, and the docs have reccommended the patch.
Can you let me know how that works? I woudlnt assume it would help for CH, but maybe other sorts of pain can be managed with this patch.

Hi I have been wearing a fentynal pain patch for over 3 years now started 25 then 50 then 75 then 100 (highest one they make) after 3-4 months on the 100 I went back to 75 I was too wiped out to function at all of the 67 different meds in many combos plus I had the brain surgry that cut trigeminal nerve to right side of face (numb forever) I can function good enough now to even drive and I stay at a 3-4 pain level 24/7 365 BUT if does get worse i am allowed 12 10mg morphine shots per month I am on SSD cause of clusters and side effects of my meds but i have a life better than many years before Terry not wise to drink on patch I had about 3 glasses of mudslide only what 10% and i passed out good thing i was home and by bed never again will i drink while wearing pain patch Terry

I never been so sick in my life.......holy barf batman !! I felt so much better last nite after I got the nerve to put that patch on and read the phamplet real good that came with them. Mine are 50mgs.....mite of been a bit strong for starters ? I used to take invenza (spelling) that is a similar med cap form which didn't mess me up at all but I got SUDDENLY sick as hell a few times and scared myself. It just happen'd and would catchme off gaurd ! Didn't take it long. But I also wasn't used to the med at all either back then or any meds. I would never make a good addict or alcholholic.......not that I ever want to !!!! I felt better last nite after it was on for about 4 or 5 hours and am amazed at how well they work ! (and not messin ya up at all) felt like I did 10 years ago before this all got bad......but I jumped up to do sumthin this morning quick and about fainted and started to feel sick and it got worse and worse all day. Couldn't even keep water down !!!! Don't try eating romaine noodles when your sick......I think I need a good worming now. (jus jokeing......site of that made me sicker......blech) Managed to eat some ice cream cuz I had to get sumthin in me......only thing that sounded good was pizza so Brad went for that but could only choke down one piece. Sat in a ball on the couch with my cats all over me all day long.......they know when I don't feel good. Dam it was a bad day. But I fineally started feelin better a couple hours ago.......got an event tomarrow I am hopein to make.......so be sure yer wife starts on a low dose BMonee......the 25 mgs probly be best !? I got sick enuff today that it had me a bit worried !!!! Came in waves all day.....suddenly start to feel better and MOVE and it'd come back with a vengence ! What's up with that ??? I got nothin done today......and I been REALLY tired which isn't me !! Let me be a lesson for ya Pam
Heck I still get motion sickness and can spin around once and feel sick for an hour......even low dose meds would make me sick on certain days after taken em for a long time. Thanks again everyone for the info !!!!!!!!
