Doncha hate that?  Works one day and not the next.  Reckon we should start asking for refunds on all the duds until it works out cheaper for them to supply a cure that's guaranteed.

Stick with it, mate.  We're all on your side.

They gave me benadryl IV w/ phenergan, got rid of my headache until I got out to the car. I wouldn't recomend benadryl for C/H. just my personal experience. Yours may be different.

Sorry the Benadryl didn't help tonight. If the shadows leave try snoozing in an sorta-upright position in the recliner. Maybe you can nod off a little.
If the coffe doesn't keep you awake.
Damnned if you do and damnned if you don't.

I'm sorry you are facing this horror but this worked for me:

  Dr. Wright’s Circulatory Technique:

I am not sure what mechanism is triggered by this but whatever it is, at least indirectly helps kill the pain. I do know that this technique has nothing to do with meditation, relaxation, or psychic ability. It is entirely physical and takes some work. It involves concentrating on trying to redirect a little circulation to the arms, hands, or legs. It can described as a conscious circulatory flexing. Increased circulation will result in a reddening and warming of the hands. Try to think of it as filling your hands with redirected blood. The important and difficult part is that it has to be done without interruption through the pain. Do not give up in frustration. It may not work on the first try. Every now and then it will work almost immediately. I lived for those moments. Try experimenting between attacks. You will find that it gets easier with practice.

I was given less than five minutes instruction in the use of method. The doctor, while placing his arm on his desk, showed me that he could slightly increase his arm and hand circulation. After several attempts, I was able to repeat this procedure and use it successfully. I have had about a 75% success rate shortening these attacks. My 20 minute attacks were often reduced to 10 minutes or less. Once proven that I had a chance to effectively deal with this horror, I always gave it a try as I had nothing to lose but pain.

Perhaps it will help if you think of it as trying to fill the arm as if it is were an empty vessel. I used to try to imagine I was pushing blood away from my head into my arm. Use your imagination. There is one man who wrote that his standing barefoot on a concrete floor shortened his attacks. This may be similar as it draws some circulation away from the head. Cold water, exercise, or anything affecting circulation, seems to be worth a try. My suggestion is to not let up immediately when the pain goes. Waiting a minute is probably a good idea. So long as you do not slack off, this has a chance of working.

This technique is very useful while waiting for medication to take effect or when none is available. It costs nothing, is non-invasive, and can be used just about anywhere. It is not a miracle but it helped me deal with this horror. It can be a bit exhausting but the success rate was good enough for me and a cluster headache sufferer will do just about anything to end the pain. It gives us a fighting chance.

Benedryl is not an abortive, its just a sleep aid. Have you tried melatonin?

I tried benadryl for sleeping or at least gettin drousey enuff to possibly fall asleep and stay asleep and all it did was make me feel relaxed a bit but my wide awake brain was stuck in a tired body......what torture cuz I just laid there. Tried it campin cuz everyone else would get sleepy after a few beers around the bonfire and go to bed and 'then there is me'.....can't sleep if I had a few beers and benadryl put me in a 'sleep wide awake' stage. I would be so burnt out in the morning it was REDICULOUS......oh my !!! Gives me a hangover. Opposite powers Pam

PS: I'm a supporter so I can only share my feelins on the stuff. Does it give anyone else a hangover ?

Like I told you last night in chat, get some melatonin to mix with that benadryl.  When i started, I did 6mg melatonin and 25mg benadryl, you might wanna try 6 or 9mg melatonin and 50mg benadryl.  It really helped me a lot.  Granted, it didnt cure me, but I went from 6 bad hits per night and almost no sleep to just 2 bad hits per night and a few hours of sleep.  For me, that was a HUGE success.
Also, I notice that the cocktail gets into and out of my system very quickly if i have an empty or nearly empty stomach.  I try to have either a light dinner several hours before bed, or no dinner.  And, take the pills about 45 minutes before you lie down.  I have noticed that when i take them and lie down immediately, it takes a long time for them to get in my system, and in the morning seems to still be there.
So, take them on an empty stomach, 45 to 60 minutes before lying down when you can devote a good 7 to 8 hours.  If its midnight and you have to be up at 5:am, i wouldnt recommend you take the pills.

Good luck bro, keep us abreast of your progress.

Pam, like i just said in my last post, it helps to take them on an empty stomach a solid 8 hours before you need to wake up.  When i take benadryl and melatonin the way i described, its not that I dont feel groggy or hungover, most of the time i wake up before my alarm completely rested and refreshed.  I wake up before the alarm because i dont need any more sleep.  Typically i only get about 5 to 6 hours anyway, but because i get such restful sleep, its enough to get me through the day.
Thats just my 2 cents.  This cocktail is the only one that has made me sleep well.  I have taken all sorts of sleep aids and none really work, but this cocktail is really amazing.
