Your LynkSys 4 port router and VOIP router need to be in the same IP range. I.E. 192.168.100.xx And the PC's need a static IP in that range or have the router assign the IP. I'm not familiar w/ voice over IP routers, but they may need to be assigned to the same IP range. Maybe? TomM

Whenever I introduce the router into the configuration I get nada..zip...squat. I have everything hooked up directly to the back of the comcast modem temporarily. I've reset the router, check the IP addresses...taken the switch out of the configuration, put the switch back IN the configuration. I know the router is good as I had it hooked up and was using it to route when we had DSL DD

This may sound strange but for this configuration to work I believe you need a second IP address assigned to your account. Contact Comcast, explain your configuration to their tech. support and they should be able to quickly verify if a second address is needed. It's very inexpensive - I think $4 more a month and can be done in minutes. In this configuration the Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Router W/4 port switch and Linksys 8 port workgroup switch may appear to the carrier as two seperate networks (I believe). I'm not certain why the network is being configured this way so I will only say - you may - if you want only one network - replace the Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Router W/4 port switch with a larger compatible router/switch/firewall. I emphasize firewall because from what I see here the network is very exposed to intrusion. Hope this helps. Tom

Okay... I have no experience with the Comcast cable modem, but I'm guessing that if it has 4 ports, it prolly also have router settings (DHCP and other crap). And, of course, the Linsys is a router. So what I'm wondering... Are you using DHCP on this network, and which router is setup as the DHCP server? Also... Why do you need the second router? If the second router is necessary, then you set it up as a pass-through device, and turn off the router functions, because this may conflict with the router/modem (NAT, DHCP, Gateways, etc...) Also... Have to changed the settings on the Linksys router, to reflect the new setup? If it's still using the settings from when it was connected to DSL, these settings may be the problem. Basically... Check the modem's settings... Check the router's settings... Make sure one one is acting as a router to prevent conflicts. Otherwise (if you actually meant to have two routers set up in sequence) the VoIP might not function. PFDAN........................................... Drk^Angel

Maybe this will help. What you want is the 8 port switch connected to your modem, then the VOIP routers connected to that. This is because the modem is actually a NAT( network address translation)/router in itself. The 4 port Linksys router can be connected to one of the other ports of the modem, but not in-line. Read this Use setup A and pretend that your switch is the router shown. Opus/Paul

Geat news! But please don't overlook the network's risk of exposure. My hardware firewalls are constantly dropping IPs and endless series of IP ranges attempting to hack our networks. Some of these folks are relentless and using automation to find weaknesses to be exploited across the globe. Tom
