Um could sumone give me any ideas what my computer just did......it's only about a year old......got on here to read a bit and the screen FLASHED with lines a few times and went BLACK. Then my monitor came on bright white flashing pink and blue. Computer seem'd to be busy doin sumthin makein odd sounds. Would not shut down so I had to kill the surge protector. Tried to get it goin again and nothin but a flashing monitor so solid bright ya needed sunglasses. I wasn't sure if it was jus the monitor or the computer got killed !??? I let it set a half hour 'thinkin the worse' and turned it on and it's ok ?? Was it a screw up fluke or sumthin ta worry about ? I can't go buyin anouther one.......I really like this one and has been a good one. Any ideas ? When it rains it dumps shit Pam

Wonder what caused it.......I thought this thing was a gonner for sure cuz of nothing onscreen at all cept the solid white lightly flashing screen. Thought it mite of been a virus but I keep my stuff updated. I jus dunno cuz that was way too wierd for me. My shit keeps breakin blues Pam

Bad power can fuck things up in a 'puter... Sags or surges from the mains can throw off the 'puter, that won't get corrected until you unplug the 'puter long enough to allow everything to reset. Had a 'puter that I thought the sound card went bad or something, but after unplugging it for a bit, everything worked fine again.
If something is overheating it can really fuck things up in a 'puter... It doesn't even need to overheat enought to damage anything. It could be the processor, memory, chipset, or video card overheating that could create video errors. Hell... The power supply could overheat, and create bad power for the system. If wierd shit happens when you leave the system on for a little while, feel the air blowing out of the power supply... It should be warm, but not hot. Take off the cover, and remove that giant dust bunny that has grown inside the system in the last year.
The monitor could be fucking up... Normally they last longer than a year, but it could be a defective monitor, and heading for a premature death. Of course, normally a bad monitor would just stop working, give wierd colours, get real dim, get real bright, or smoke like crazy, but sometimes monitors like to shake it up a bit and be unique. If it's the monitor... Don't open it! Either let a tech repair it, or buy a new one, but only if you know it's a monitor problem.

Hopefully it is just the monitor. Mine would blink & then turn colors like yours did... Happily... monitors are not that expensive anymore if you have to replace it. Hang in there... Jan

Well so far so good today and no problems but that sure was strange what happen'd......I never thought it'd come back on ! Plus like I said the screen went black after flashing what I was lookin at with black lines and then the screen when vivid white. But the computer was still makeing this downloading or doin sumthin clickin noise over and over the same ? So could it of just MESSED UP and ok now or overheated ? l left it on all nite and the screen saver is an aquarium and the fans run harder......I'd forgotten to shut down. Thanks for all the advice or info. Shit happens house Pam

Shit.....it did it again......I been shuttin down after checking mail and not been on as much lately anyhow but it was only on maybe 10 minutes when I noticed a BLACK screen !? Computer was still runnin tho......the monitor is a flat screen and barely 6 months old. If it was messin up would it come back on tho ?? It seems nice and bright and no problems. Just a a few screen flashes or the monitor just goes BLACK. No flashin colors this time. I turned it back on 10 minutes later and it's ok. Could overheating cause it if a fan broke.....this one sucks air out the front thru to the back and seems to be circulateing ok ? This sucks.........can't imagine what it'd cost to have fixed cuz they usually want HUNDREDS. Any more ideas ? It does shut off once in a while when playin a game but it restarts. One certain new game seems to cause it but NOT that often. I dunno-ville Pam
