I guess the questions to ask are:  who has the symptoms, you or Pegg?

What symptoms do you (both) have?

modified to add:  ok, THAT deserved a DUH! What symptoms do YOU have?

Hi Jody, and good to meet you. I am Lance.

First, the only thing you can do is BE THERE. She may tell you to back off, but just be there. You have the most frustrating job in the whole world, because there is little you can do. Trust me though, all of us who suffer, really do appreciate our supporters much more than we can possibly say.

Second, when in cycle, just breathing can trigger it. There is so little known about clusters that even doctors are hard pressed to come up with answers. Often we sufferers have more info than they do.

If Pegg has oxygen handy, have her breathe it. That is the best thing you can do.

Jody, thankyou for being a supporter!!

Hi Jody.  Best thing I can tell you about your situation is to take the Cluster Quiz on the left.  Read the info in the various links and start keeping a journal of when you start having your symptoms.

Track Date, Time, Weather, Food Recently Eaten, Activity at the onset of symptoms, Pain level 0 - 10 (10 being the worst), How long did the symptoms last and what (if anything) did you do to stop them, ie meds, ice, excercise, etc.

Each person has different things that may trigger an attack and some have no triggers at all.  They just get hit at the same times every day no matter what.   Many people report various odors, like gas, paint or heavy perfume will trigger them.  Alcohol can be a big time no no for most people.  I know barometric pressure changes is one of Pegg's.  Was there a storm front moving through?

As far as what to do to help Pegg?  Talk to her when she's not being hit and ask HER what SHE wants you to do and then respect that.  Definitely be there for her when it is all over.

Pegg's a special lady.  Treat her good and thanks for caring enough to ask.

Jody,

welcome to the Clusterfamily! Smiley

Thank you for supporting Redd. Smiley
Job of a supporter is not easy. But I'm sure that Pegg can tell you what kind of support she needs. We're all different in that sense.

I personally don't want anybody around when I get hit, but that's because my closeones don't know how to deal with it, they haven't done their visit to ch.com nor asked me about it.

But I'm with Lance with this one: the best way to support is to just be there and if she advices you do something, she will.

I do hope that you don't have ch, too... Sad But that Clusterquiz is a good place to start. And read as much other material about ch as you possibly can. It helps you to analyse your self, if you could have it. Naturally visiting a good neuro confirms it.

Best wishes & PF time,
Sanna Smiley

Good Morning folks.

Yes I do feel Jody may and I repeat MAY be a clusterhead.  His attacks seem to be the worst at night, yes they wake him up, last for as little as 15 minutes, but sometimes up to 45 min to an hour.  From what I have observed and discussed with him, he's never experienced a hit over maybe a 7.5K.  Right side always, teary eye, major twitch under that eye, ice and pacing are his coping mechanisms, eating extra strength excedrin and alergy meds like candy on a daily basis.  He has been convinced they are alergy related, but with the swift onset, and swift departure, I do want him to track them, and then see a neuro.  I have him doing this now.  There is only one thing that happens that has me a bit concerned, and that is the frequent middle of the night nosebleeds.  At least every other week of not more often.

May not be CH but it's been chronic for him for years from what I gather.

Pegg

PS:  Jody, you are the best, thanks sweetheart.  Kiss

edit to add: BIG CLUE---he uses Red Bull to abort the attacks.

Also, as far as my hit the other night, it was triggered by the waterproofing spray he used on his work boots.  Pertoleum based stuff like that is as bad as the stench of asphalt and Pine Sol.   Tongue

Jody,  thanks for being such a great supporter. Just being there is most times the best you can do, and it really DOES mean a lot!

Pegg is right. Definitely keep a log of the hits, your activities, foods, etc. and take it to the doc when you go.

Hoping you don't have this and sending pf vibes to you and Pegg.
