Hi, O.K., i've read all the stories of your life and your cars & your dogs. (Nice Z you just sold by the way.) Now would you please fill me in on your Cluster Headaches. Inquiring minds want to know. (After all, this is a CH site). How long is this last cycle been ? How many cycles have you had in the past ? What works for you as an abortive ? Have you ever tried 02 ? Welcome to the nuthouse. BM

Blue Meanie This is it. About two months ago I'm siiting in an O.R. Lounge reading the local paper and drinking a cup of coffee. I was waiting for the next surgery to start. I'm siiting there and all of a sudden out of the clear blue sky my left eye closes half way and it starts tearing. I said to myself what the hell is going on here and I went in to the bathroom and sure enough my eyelid is half closed. I'm think I'm stroking out. About 20 minutes later I get about a 6-7 with pain radiating in to my ear and pain in the back of my eye and pain over my eyebrow and a burning sensation on the top of my head on the affected side. After the case I go to an optholmologist I figured I got something going on with my eye. He does the full blown exam and says to me you are having a cluster headache. I say what in the hell is that. I've had headaches all my life. Some bad ones some onesided but you know I never tried to put a name to them. They eventually went away in a day or two. This thing didn't go away and it just lingered and got a little worse. That's when I found the site. I have never had the head banging suicidal type pain. I thought it was gone and then boom the same time of the day about 2:30 in the afternoon all over again. Would get a little better and then then the next day the same thing. Kept popping advil. Put some ice packs on the head then frozen peas. The the base of neck started to hurt. I went to the new York Headach Center Alexander Mauskop M.D. He gave me some depomedrol injections on my scalp and neck and the pain got better over five days but I felt like dog shit from the depomedrol. He told me I had CH. Told me it might go away and never come back, could come back could be chronic. I started looking in to the site and as I was asking questions I had people telling me I didn't have CH and sall kinds of other shit. I went to Fred Sheftell about 3 weeks ago as the headaches were getting better. He also diagnosed it and told me that you do not necessarily have to have suicidal type pain to have CH. He also told me that I was coming to the end of the cycle. Headaches are gone now. After Mauskop I got an oxygen tank a big freaking tank. Iused it ar 8-10 liters for 15 minutes and I pearled a Non Rebreathing mask from one of the Anesthesis departments in one of the O.R.s. About 95% of the time I sucked that stuff in and the headache went away it was remarkable. Still have tank and I'm waiting. Hope this shit doesn't happen again. Sheftell told me that if it does he wants to put me on Verapamil. It took an additional 2 weeks for the burning to go away. Every once and a while now I will get this bizarre quick little stabs on the side of my head lasting a second or two. Oh yeah I also had pain in my nose on the same side as the head. I hope this doesn't come back and if it does if I have pain like many of you do I may not be able to stand it oxygen or no oxygen That's the story. Burt

Here's your experience related from first posts: on Dec 26th, 2005, 8:28am, cardogman wrote:I think if I am not mistaken I have had CH but brief episodes lasting not more then a day or a few days in the past 20 years. Excuse me for asking but doesn't he (and everyone else) have better things to do e.g. life or useful CH posts. Sorry just asking, I know it is sport and a great release for "CH anger" but even in my few years experience of ch.com this one goes down in the annals of turgid waste of time. Bet that makes Burt happy W

Burt, from the wording of your first posts, I'd side with the doubt. Your subsequent posts of a troll identity isn't tolerated here, that shouldn't have been pursued. I highly respect the people who's posts you may not have liked, and they have very good intentions here.

| Don't say that Charlie, he'll get upset These were my original thoughts and I stand by them today. on Dec 27th, 2005, 6:59pm, Sean_C wrote: What is Hemicrania Continua? Hemicrania continua is a rare form of chronic headache marked by (4., 6. & 7.)continuous pain on one side of the face that varies in severity. Superimposed on the continuous but fluctuating pain are occasional attacks of more severe pain. Symptoms fall into two main categories: autonomic, including runny nose, (3.)tearing, (2.)eye redness, eye discomfort, sweating, and (1.) swollen and drooping eyelids; and migraine-like, including nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound. The disorder has two forms: continuous, with daily headaches, and remitting, where headaches may occur for as long as 6 months and are followed by a pain-free period of weeks to months until they recur. Most patients experience attacks of increased pain three to five times per 24-hour cycle. This disorder is more common in women than in men. Physical exertion and alcohol use may increase the severity of headache pain in some patients. The cause of this disorder is unknown. Is there any treatment? Indomethacin, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), usually provides rapid relief from symptoms. Other NSAIDs, including ibuprofen, celecoxib, and naproxen, can provide some relief from symptoms. Amitriptyline and other tricyclic antidepressants are effective in some patients. What is the prognosis? Patients may obtain complete to near-complete relief of symptoms with proper medical attention and daily medication. Some patients may not be able to tolerate long-term use of indomethacin and may have to rely on less effective NSAIDs. Burt, I'm just trying to help you the best I can. I thought you would of opened the link but I guess you didn't so I high lighted areas that pertain to your headache as you described them. It is not uncommon to be misdiagnosed with clusters if you have Hemicrania Continua, I went 10 years chronic before I was diagnosed by a competant nuerologist. Please print a copy of the actual link I gave you and bring it with you to your Nuerologist and give it a go with the Indo. It may actually stop your headaches dead in there tracks Remember all birds have feathers, however not all are the same species.....................................tweet tweet I honestly do not believe you suffer from CH, and I hope I'm right and you'll find relief soon. In the end it probably doesn't matter what type of headache someone has. Pain is Pain and I think anybody can get some help here. All I can tell you is what the Docs told me. Atypical case for sure and never anyworse then maybe 7. But both Docs told me they have seem many people with CH that do not exhibit the terrible headbangers like the Video someone sent me from one of the conventions in the hotel room. And I'll tell you I hope it doesn't come back. I do still think that when I was under a lot of stress during the cycle it got worse. I don't know why but maybe somebody can chime in. If that's the case then there may be a small psychological component. Maybe it was a stress headache on top of it all that made it worse. Right now I'm left with what could be described as short quick lightning bolts that last about a second or two. Very random and very infrequent. Any of you have those. Cardogman

| http://www.achenet.org/articles/6.php Read the article Burt Entirely please Hemicrania continua is suspected if … · Pain is continuous but only on one side of the head · Pain is moderate with occasional episodes of severe pain · During the more severe pain episodes, many patients will have additional symptoms, such as: - Red or tearing eyes or drooping eyelid - Nasal congestion or runny nose - Nausea - Light or sound sensitivity · Brief stabbing pains may occur in addition to the daily continuous headache If you have continuous daily headaches that are always one-sided, ask your doctor whether you might have hemicrania continua and should try indomethacin. | The people who are likely to have these Burt aren't CH sufferers. They are more likely to be PH/CPH or SUNCT or Idiopathic Stabbing Headache or as Sean has told you ad nauseam HC (Hemicrania Continua) sufferers. They are all from the same group of headaches called TACs but even experienced neurologists get them confused. Wendy modified to add- this doesn't mean you DON'T have CH, just that you seem to have symptoms of other TAC's as well which can pretty easily be treated with Indomethacin alongside the CH treatments. The exception is SUNCT which is a bit of an arse to treat. Just because your neuro, however good says you have CH, this doesn't mean you ONLY have CH- multiple TAC's aren't that uncommon, or TAC's which modify into other TAC's at times.

Human nature to be curious.....but didn't yer docs want MRI's and stuff......when Brad fineally got diagnosed he had to have all that done and am sure now days even more so docs don't miss sumthin and let it go and get sued. Esp when a patient complains of head pain that effects the eye or vision kinda stuff. And seems I've heard it mentiond alot stayin stressed keeps em under control in a round about way......or away......I don't mean it's a cure or preventative.....oh hell you know what I mean. His doc had him do biofeedback but I am not sure what the connection is other then to learn to control your panic of anouther attack ? Where'd you learn the pea trick.......dam we never had peas jus layin around. All we have is frozen blocks of brocolli and califlower Pam Just wonderin.......I get nosey when in a FUNK........and now I am craveing peas with butter ! man if I could post pics of my back you'd all have a suprise........me LOVES tatts !!!

Folks, Even though I thought I was being slammed when I first came to this site I was listening. Eric and I spoke and he referred me to Dr. Sheftell in Connecticut. I thought I muight have something else then CH. BTW I had all the usual stuff MRI Sedimentation Rate when I went to the first Neurologist 3 or 4 days in to it. He was no help. Anyway I actually went in to Sheftell with my own agenda. That was to see if I had Hemicrania Continua or some other thing going on. You see it didn't really matter to me what you called it I just wanted it to go away. In the end and after four hours he said definitively that what was going on with me was CH. and that I was reasonably lucky that the cycle wasn't the worst but could not guarantee that I wouldn't have another go round and he couldn't guarantee the severity if it happened. He did say that if I began to have symptoms that he wants to jump on it quickly with no waiting. So what can I tell you it is what it is. The little lightning bolts only occur about once or twice a week at the most for a second or two now. It may be the aftermath. I just hope it's not the calm before the storm. Like I said does it really matter. Based upon all the different topics on this site it would seem to me that any headache sufferer no matter what the brand can get something from this place. Are you sure this site isn't a cult of some sort? Cardog

Burt, This site is dedicated to CH. Over the years some of us Chers have developed other types of headaches along with CH, so we discuss them occasionally and have gotten to be headache "experts". But we're still "predominately" CH. We try to steer people to the right sites if we feel they have some other type of headache so they'll get the right info and not waste their time on treatments that just aren't right. When you have this many people (in pain) from this wide an area and all typing on a computer - someone is going to type something that someone else is going to take wrong and the war is going to start. I've been here since 98 and have seen it happen over and over and over. It's silly and accomplishes nothing except to get blood pressurers up (well maybe that's something - mine usually runs low so....). Now, me, I'm the sweetest, most lovable person you'd ever want to meet, but I have a bad habit of saying what I think (most of the time before I think about it) and there are several people who have taken this amiss (even a few times when I was making a joke) and have come back slamming me big time. I've learned over the years just not to take things personal. They were probably hurting and I know I was, so just let the hostilities go and enjoy our little corner of the world. It's the best place to be for Clusterheads. This site is a godsend for most of us. It has saved a lot of lives (mine included). Sometimes we just get a little defensive about it. No one on here would intentionally hurt another CH sufferer. Now, it sounds to me like you're having your first CH and you're scared (I'm a mother - I pick up on these things) and you're lashing out. We're here to help - take the help. And the rest of you - Behave! You may have another type of headache along with the CH. Listen to some of the advice and get it checked out. No need to suffer if you don't have to. Hugs BD
