My disability exam.....
« on: Feb 4th, 2006, 8:36am »

Think most of you know I'm applying for disability (already on SS, but am trying to get medicare). Well, I had to go in for the "exam" yesterday. Had a folder full of CH stuff to present to the doc. MY first question to him, "Do you know what CH is?" He said, "I certainly do!" Well, I was surprised, so I begin questioning him and darned if he didn't.

Seems he had meegraines and had spent a lot of time with a neuro thinking he had CH, so he was really up on it. Didn't even have to have him go thru all the stuff I'd taken with me. He suggested my neuro write a letter since he'd been treating me for over 10 years and knew my case well. He knew what my meds did. (Don't think I even needed that comment about NOT taking pain meds!). And my grandson even told him how to "breathe" with the O2. (he didn't know about the rebreathable mask, but does now - I told him to try that with his meegraines).

All in all it wasn't what I was expecting and I'm really optimistic about it. Keepiing all fingers crossed that it'll go thru and I'll finally get some insurance.

Go for it Barb.  I've been on the verge of applying several times but haven't followed through.

Good Luck - it's good you found someone who knows CH - Let's just hope he doesn't equate your experience with CH to his with migranes.

I am so mad.  I have been paying roughly 150/month for medicare because I am on disability.  I tried to get them to pay something that my primary insurance company wouldn't pay.  And they said if your primary won't pay it.  We wont' pay it either.  They won't pay anything because they think my primary should cover everything.  So I wrote them a letter and canceled my medicare.  Waste of money as far as I am concerened if they are going to play games.

Glad to hear your exam went so well.  That is probably a good sign for you.  I hope you get what you want.

Brad has mentiond that I try to apply at least for partial disability ? I don't have ch......but the spine crap goin on and more areas affected now plus other damaged areas from horse raceing days. A shoulder that goes out of socket cuz of rotar cup damage blah blah blah blah blah. I work at home with my small dog business......but I am not sure my case is warrented to apply for aid chronic pain lumps buldges and so on. Plus I would NEVER try to get over on the system when I know so many SHOULD get aid and have nothing. I do ok for myself (as long as Brad's shop keeps goin......it still may end up for sale so that may really fuck us up). So what's the deal on disability.......I don't know shit about it. I know people on it that play in bands.....work sideline jobs under the table and seem to be QUITE mobile for all I have seen and they don't appear to be suffering or in pain ! Mixed emotional Pam
