Nice! I'd love to see your list of legal "deductions". Wife: Marylin (as in Monroe), children: Dingo(the dog), Garfield (the cat), Nemo (the fish), Hamilton (the hamster). Wanna donate a little for my airfare to Milwaukee in July??? Sandy

It's all who you want holding the money during the year. A fine balancing act that's tough to figure out. Especially when things change. Divorce, sell a home, kids move off, cpital gains, new job, etc.

we had to pay in around 3500 in 03 because Mary wen't back to work and claimed the kids on her w2,as was I, now we don't claim them until we file. It takes a bite out of my checks but at least that way we don't owe. Think loan sharks are bad, deal with the IRS. Check this out http://www.irs.gov/publications/p502/ar02.html Be surprised what you can write off.................. Medicines You can include in medical expenses amounts you pay for prescribed medicines and drugs. A prescribed drug is one that requires a prescription by a doctor for its use by an individual. You can also include amounts you pay for insulin. Except for insulin, you cannot include in medical expenses amounts you pay for a drug that is not prescribed.

Been looking over the Katrina Tax Relief Act details. With the exception of the waiving of the 10% penality for early withdrawal from the 401K for hurricane-related expences, nothing there for us. Five grand is about what we get back. I'll take it. It's not hard to count your blessings when you have a job and a house to come home to. Steve G

| Hey bro, you got that in October, right? all you would get is about 1 or 2 months of the taxes you paid on it and also the interest you paid on the mortgage during that time. Ya probably paid interest for about 2 months or so, right? Its better than nothing for sure!! Ya gotta get creative, bro. BMonee

Wonder if the OUCH Conventions are deductible...... Medical Conferences You can include in medical expenses amounts paid for admission and transportation to a medical conference if the medical conference concerns the chronic illness of yourself, your spouse, or your dependent. The costs of the medical conference must be primarily for and necessary to the medical care of you, your spouse, or your dependent. The majority of the time spent at the conference must be spent attending sessions on medical information. The cost of meals and lodging while attending the conference is not deductible as a medical expense

Take all those miles you "drive" to the doctor and pharmacy too. You'd be surprised how they add up. Also, if you're self-employed -- you can take an IRA or a SEP IRA and get a write off on that. I'm having so much fun learning the NEW tax laws. And they're subject to change as the season goes along. I just LOVE the IRS Hugs BD

| This is a good point to remember if ever needed because you can withdraw from retirement accounts for a down payment on a home if you are a first time buyer, medical emergencies or a financial emergency created by the loss of a job and the 10% penalty is waived.
