who helped with the Cluster Headaches Wikipedia article.

It is obvious that some people from this group had a large part to play in it's factual presentation of Cluster Headaches.

Did I miss something?
It seemed pretty well written.
I guess we can add to it pictures of us sucking O2 to make it more graphic

Are those stats right? 4 in every 1000 people suffer from CH? That would mean 208 people have clusterheadaches in my home town? I have never met one if there even is one. I went 23 years without ever meeting/seeing/talking/ or knowing anyone who knew anyone with Ch, that stat has to be wrong. Undecided

Sean........................................

That would also mean in the worse case scenario 120,000 people suffer from clusterheadaches in the United States? Can't be right guys.

As far as I'm concerned there's only 2 in Weymouth out of 53,998 people in a 2000 census of the population. I would say 54 which is 0.1% is even a bad number.

Nice job Paul. Thanks.

But,
Quote:
Latitude plays a role in the occurrence of cluster headaches, which are more common as one moves away from the equator towards the poles. It is believed that greater changes in day length are responsible for the increase.

Is this true? We have a lot of Canadians and Northern Europeans here. And few South Americans. Maybe because of the language barrier?
A few years ago there was a very long discussion about this topic. If I remember right it seemed to be people who's families (past generations) were white/European types that were in the majority.
But, I could be wrong. Hell, I don't know.

I wrote most of the wikipedia article, and Wendy/Pubgirl has also contributed. Since then, it has been comandeered by a wikipedia editor who is an MD, and he has repeatedly removed any link to my CH website www.med-owl.com/clusterheadaches/  ... last few times I tried, they were removed within a day or so.. But that editor loves links to migraine pages.    Angry

We are 4,5mill people in Norway and the new stats says of that amount it should be around 4-5000 clusterheads.

I do not know what kind of stats they are operating with in USA though

Very nice work kids. Very nice and it looks good too.

I've always read the 0.1% figure too but Jamestown has a population of about 35,000 and I've met two other clusterheads... one by phone who doesn't want to meet and the other in my neurologist's office. The doctor says he has several more patients too. The whole county has something like 130,00 the last I heard.

Its a good article, but I really wish they'd leave the male to female ratio out of the equation...maybe I'm just bias here, but I wonder how many women go mis-diagnosed because some doctor looks at that ratio and figures it must be something else because of the gender...

I guess Gladewater Texas had it's Over-Share cause after I wrote an article for the local newspaper people started popping up out of the woodwork. I knew of two before the article, but after that about 10 more popped into my office to tell me about being "alone" with their CH.  The two I knew about committed suicide (yeah both of them - one a teenager and the other a 51 year old doctor).  The population of Gladewater is only 6000. My neurologist treats about 35 CHers from the surrounding area of about 75,000 people.

I'm too tired of looking at numbers right now (tax season you know) to work up the statistics on this, but I think with more publicity on CH, we'll find more sufferers and more people getting diagnosed.

April, I have to disagree about the male/female ratio. I think this is very important to being diagnosed correctly for females. It's been a male disease for so long that docs need to realize that women get it too (we don't just have meegraines). The last time I checked it was about 75/25 male/female. That's up from 100% male 50 years ago.

Anyhow, that's my 2 cents....

Now reads:

While migraines are diagnosed more often in women, cluster headaches are diagnosed in men at a rate 2.5 to 3 times greater than in women. This gap between the sexes has narrowed over the past few decades, and it is not clear whether cluster headaches are becoming more frequent in women, or whether they are merely being better diagnosed.
