Hey guys-
Pfunk here. First time posting. On Wednesday I had the nerve block done becsusee I wen to my dotor snd msde it very clesr to him how drastically important it is for mo to break this cycle. My headaches were gone for a year and a half so I decide to go bck to college an finish my degree. Previously, I dropped out of college in 1994 b/c the monster had complete control of my life. And now, two semesters in with only two left it has sowm its ugly face again, as if to say "you've had your hopes up for long enough, now take this again." I really can't afford to drop out againm since I am 35 and almost finished. Doc and I did the block because it has worked in the oast but we are laying some surgical options out on the table as well that would be done in the summer so I wasn't in classes. Any successes in surgery that you have esperienced or any other information you would care to offer would be gratly appreciated. Best of luck and happy days to all.

P.S. Since the block, I have been somewhat headache free. But I have been waking withtremendoous pain in my neck ( almost as much pain as one of the normal attacks.) Just wondering if this is typical or if I should be worried

It is up to YOU to educate yourself and then help your doctor plan your treatment. If you just sit down in front of your doctor and say "make me better" you are setting yourself up for a great deal of pain.

Sorry you are dealing with CH while in school, but there are members of this board who have been able to successfully be in school while dealing with their headaches. You didn't mention if your doctor has you on any abortive meds. Many members here find good success with oxygen therapy when it is used properly (note the oxygen link to the left). I went through undergrad & graduate school without any treatment what so ever.
Someday I will go through a doctoral program with CH.
Just gotta live my friend!!!

Yeah I'm still in school and also working full time in a job that switches between day and night shift on a dime. It can be done...takes a lot out of you, but you can do it. Before jumping to surgery, take a look at some of those links... there are a lot of less drastic things to try.

There is not one surgical technique that is 100% successful against CH. Every one available, so far, has a failure rate that when combined with the cost, side effect potential and danger factor makes it a no go. (in my book anyways)
There are plenty of treatments, both prescription and alternative, that work without making you a moron or zombie...or dead. Check out the links to the left as well as the Medications and CH Specific message boards of this website. I also sent you a little something to read via private message.
Some doctors' answer for everything is surgery of some sort. Being well informed of ALL available treatments is your best defense against CH and will give you a better idea of how you want to proceed.
