Hi just found ya'll and really have questions

Hi. My name is Heather and I am 27. I had my first of these "headaches" almost 2 years ago. I finally talked to my doctor about it last week (cause I FINALLY have insurance) and he said other than one thing he is pretty sure I'm getting at least a "variant" of clusters. The thing that makes him unsure is that I only get one headache every 3-4 months. He said from the pain I describe and the other symptoms (like eye drooping and stuffy nostril and inability to stay in bed or even stay still) that he needs to research, but it sounds like a cluster. Has anyone ever had that? Only one headache? Please tell me that it doesn't preogress from there to having multiples... I really am not sure if I could handle more than one. You people are amazing for being able to go thru this repeatedly... The pain from this is soooooo much worse than natural child birth. I would gladly do that again rather than have even a short one of these again, but I really can't chose that... Hmmm.... Anyway. Thank you all for being here. I've alerady learned alot, just reading other posts... Thanks again, H

Only getting 1 headache every 3 - 4 months would not be considered as cluster headaches. Count your blessings. Hope you find something to help with that headache Goodluck & Pain Free Wishes UNsolved

Hi Heather, welcome and I'm sorry you're here. Early on in my first episodic days, I would have occasional episodes of just one or two headaches a month. That probably went on for about 3 years. My first few (and all my subsequent) episodes were much more active, often averaging 5 - 6 hits a day. I hope you don't have CH, but the way you describe the pain sounds eerily familiar. Keep reading here, there's tons of treatment info. Good luck and keep us posted, OK? pain free wishes, nani

Hi Heather, You'll see by what you read here that while we're all here for basically the same reason, everyone has their own"variant". There are many here who would gladly trade theirs for yours, if that's what it is. That doesn't mean we don't care about what YOU have to deal with. Anyone who has had just ONE of these "headaches" understands full well what it means to the person having it. I have no wish to scare you, but you should be prepared (and being here is as good as you are going to find). What nani described is not uncommon. In my case, for the first few years when in cycle, I got one hellacious hit a day, every day for weeks, then nothing for weeks. Later, it was multiple per day. I hope and pray that yours will not progress like that or that it is something else that is treatable. In the meantime, stick with that doc. A "tentative" diagnosis (which many of us waited years for) shows a reluctance to make snap judgements, and a willingness to research shows character and determination. Good signs! Pain free wishes, Jon019

Hi Heather its nice to meet you, although your headache DOES sound like clusters the frequency doesn't but really, that doesn't mean much! You need to see a neurologist and a headache specialist at that. You will need an MRI to rule out anything else too. Thats extremely important. I'm so glad you finally have insurance! Take care okay and let us know how you are getting on Best wishes Helen

Hi Heather Helen is right in that you should get to a neurologist to rule anything else out as well as get a proper diagnosis. You may have clusters that don't "cluster" for what ever reason, thank goodness. The important thing is to get proper treatment for them. do you get any other types of headaches? -lionsound

Welcome Heather Sorry you are getting HA. Glad you found this sight and to know that you are on the right path of searching for some answers. There is a cluster quiz on the Left that you can take that might help out some. Just as Helen and Rori said definetly need to see the neurologist or a Headache specialist and get that official diagnosis. Welcome again Kim

My experience is along nani's: several years of wandering, occasional pain which took about 2-3 years to develop into a classic cluster picture. Any textbook diagnostic description must be regarded as an "ideal" experience of the disorder, not necessarily one which is uniform across a large group of people. This is one of the reasons that many folks may go for years before a good diagnosis is established.

Hi Heather, I'm new to the site as well but far from new to ch. My first bites was wen I was about 20 and every day around 10:30 am I'd go in the back room of the store I worked in and try to endure this thing of which I had no knowlede of!! As time went on they came worse and more frequent. As some of these other great folks have said you should try to prepare youreself just in case. I sincerely hope you don't have CH, But those symptons sound Classic Text Book to me. Best of luck to you, Nico

Greetings Heather It has been so long since my first ch, I can't honestly remember how long the attack was or how many. I pray you do NOT have this affliction. If you do this is a great site as I am finding out. I am very new here as well and these folks have embraced me with nothing but kindness and understanding. There is so much information to absorb but it is all so very useful. bright pf blessings to you K

Hello again. THank you all for responding. I really hope I don't have CH as well. That's why I was asking if anyone else's started like mine, Praying you would all say no. I'm waiting for my next apppointment and the testing he's going to do. I have to go to work now, so I'm going to run. BUT thank you all again for this site. It is very very very helpful to people who need help. Thanks... H

I made the aquaintance of a Neurologist who experienced a CH cycle once every year for 3 to 4 days and then would go into remission for another year. He did not believe it was a CH varient. He believed it was just his normal cycle. He was well into his 60's and his CH cycle had been consistent for a few decades. Your case may be simular but getting a second opinion is probably a good idea. Tom
