How many of us had braces?

So, while hanging out in front of my house most of this week without power after hurricane wilma, I got to know my neighbors pretty well. The one across the street is a dentist, and he believes that migraines and cluster headaches (he knows the difference) may be caused by muscle tension in our jaws, neck and shoulders, caused by an unnatural bite that came as a result of having braces. He says one of his staff members has CH, and when a hit comes he hooks her up to a machine he has for relaxing muscle around the jaw and neck, and within a few minutes the pain is gone. Anybody heard of this? How many of us have had braces?

No braces. I had CH long before I had any jaw issues, too. (I've had TMJ for about 10 years now). I think we all know it has to do with our messed up hypothalmus', although I'm guessing some kinds of muscle tension around the jaw could possibly trigger CHs. My bet is that his staffer has been misdiagnosed. JMHO.... nani

I was (mis) diagnosed at the age of 23 with TMJ, they claimed as the result of the car accident I was in. Had braces for 2 years as they said this would eliminate the HA's for me. (NOT). From a conversation I had the other night with my first fiance/high school sweetheart Friday evening. We were engaged over 20 years ago. Quote:dmf21864@xxxxxxx(10/28/2005 9:24:36 PM): back then, u would just b very insistant that u were having a migrain, and pace back and forth while growling |
| Well now I can track this back at least 22 years. How much farther back, still? Only Mom would know and there is no way to ask her now.

Braces for 4 years (long story). CH started the last year as tooth pain. Dentist blamed orthodontist, ortho blamed dentist. I was stuck in the middle of pissing match. Don't blame either one, especially dentist as he was eventually the one who diagnosed CH after physicians kept sending me back to him because "I don't do teeth". Any connection between CH and braces? Doubt it but have always wondered. Just like I've wondered about the 100+ hour work weeks in my 20's, and the pot smoking, and, and, and, or is it just karma? Regards Jon019

| He may be refering to a TENS machine, I use one to relieve CH but it takes more than just a few minutes to work. Never had braces we were so poor we could'nt afford teeth. Barry

Had braces in Junior High. Clusters began at age 26. TMJ diagnosed at age 30 or so. Wisdom teeth removed at 45, no more TMJ but still clusters. And my cluster pain is never in my jaw area. INHO, no connection.

No braces here. Still privately kicking my parents in the ass for not going that route. Regardless ... clusters. Kris

If I had a £ or $ for every Ch sufferer who had had teeth filed down/removed/jaw contraptions made because some dentist/orthodontist was sure it would cure it I would be a very rich woman. add in a few quid for the ones whose ENT specialist did things to their sinuses as well and I'd be REALLY rich. Wendy P.S. I think having braces has been more an American thing, your teeth had to be REALLY bad here before they gave them. We are world renowned for our shitty teeth here and we still get CH
