I just finished watching the science channel and I suffer with cluster headaches. It started when I was 14 I woke up and thought I was going to die. It took my pediatric dr. a week to figure out. As I got older the cluster would come further apart from every year for 4 to 6 weeks no stop 4 to 6 a day lasting hour or longer. then every 2 years , 4, 5 then 7 years. I had my last cluster headaches in 2002 lasted 2 mo. I always end up in ER then the hospital with IV's I never can keep anything down I vomit to the point that I dry heeve blood and bile no sure on spelling sorry. I always end up on steriods high doses oxygen tank at home morphine or demerol is the only thing that helps the pain. all the meds to prevent vomiting ends up not working so I have to be hospitalized. ER Drs never know what to do after I've been in everyday for weeks. People don't understand what they are they think it's just a regular migraine. My life stops when I get these and even with all the meds I am still in pain I just manage better. My Neurologist said I have one of the worst cases he has seen which I've been told by many doctors.

Hi, I just joined today. I started my cluster experience in 1988. I thought I had a brain tumor - so did my doctor. Since most clusterheads are male "that just can't be the problem"... Before I found my current treatment (which is AWESOME - headache free 2.5 years!!!! - Topamax -) I tried over 15 different drugs. But every April 10th, 10:30 am then again at 1:30 am through August 10th I had the headaches. I still can't sleep much, I'm up to 6 hours a night now and I had to be sitting up while in pain, puching on my temple, like I could hold it back or something. But my eyes would become so sensitive to the light there was no way I could walk around, except to get out of bed so the pounding wouldn't be so prounounced (or so I thought). In 1997, I was in a roll over car crash and hit my head badly at the end of my cluster cycle, August 15th. I didn't have another cluster for 5 years. I thought I was cured until April 10th, 2002 when they came back with a vengence, worse than I had remembered. So my Neuro put me on 25mg of Topamax and within 2 weeks they were completely gone and have never come back!! I remember all the different pain meds and your system can't handle that for long. Before I found the right doctor 2 years ago, I took 8 Advil migraine, 6 tylenolw/codeine and the herb vitamin pill Migra-alieve every day for 6 weeks until my appointment. They were barely kept at bay, but I had a 2 and 4 year olds and had to function...somewhat. I hope you find something that works for you!!! RJ

Hello I've never heard of the meds you have taken. I would try anything to take away the pain. My pain is so bad I can't sit still I want to die that's why I end up in the ER. I have 3 children the last time I had my cluster headaches I was 8 weeks pregnant. I worked fulltime and had two children . I hope pray I never get them again but if I do I hope my neuro knows about the latest meds and maybe I will find relief like you. Im glad your pain free for now and hope the clusters will never come back. Good Luck .

Welcome Keeecatt & RJames. You've found the place with unlimited help and advice. First thing I would recommend is to look at everything on the left side of your screen and take all the surveys & tests. Your answers & input will not only help you but others as well. The oldtimers have such valuable advice and will help you in your search for relief from the demon. There is also some great documentation that can be recommended for you to take to your doc. May this site help you have many more PFD's ahead. Blessings, Joe
