Hello everyone. What a great site.. I didn't know anything like this existed on the net. I'm (hopefully) just over a 5 week bout of headaches. 4 days without one now. This bout always came on at the same time of day. Late afternoon. I decided to do a Google search on cluster headaches, & found this site. Don't know why I didn't do it before! Anyway, any advice I get from you guys will be most appreciated.. Cheers.... John....

Hey John. Welcome. You're posting a long ways from home. We have quite of few folks from down under. We like them all but they kinda talk funny. Glad to hear your cluster is over. Sure hope it stays away forever. Stick around and learn all you can and, of course, offer support to those still under attack.

Cheers Bob.. Thanks for the welcome! I'm actually Scottish. Hence the username... (Scottish Aussie) I've only been living in Oz for about 2 years. Reading some of the other posts, I think I'm getting off lightly with my headaches. I can normally expect nearly a year between clusters, (touch wood!), so hopefully I'll be OK for a while. My Wife reckons I become a completely different person when I'm getting the headaches. Not hard to live with or anything, but just really quiet & introverted, whereas I'm normally pretty outgoing. (Sound familiar??) It's the middle of summer here & we've been getting temperatures of around 40 degrees C, (105F), so maybe that's what triggered the CH's off. Not really sure. Tend to drink more beer in the summer as well, & I've read that that doesn't help either!!

Hey John Hope your four days is the beginning of a LONG PF period. Let us know a little about you . . . . how long have you suffered with the "beast"? . . . what meds have you tried that did or didn't work? Abortive(s), preventative(s)? Tried 02 yet? Stick arround, you'll like it here. Richard

Hi Richard. You know how the pain all of a sudden comes from nowhere? Well as soon as I feel the first twinge above my right eye, (always the right eye), I grab a couple of strong asprins ASAP! I reckon the faster you catch it, the sooner it goes away. I take a strip of aspirins everywhere I go! Work, nights out, gym, shopping, everywhere!! I've been caught out too often not to. You know what I mean. You're standing having a beer & a laugh with your buddies, then all of a sudden, BANG!! The pain hits you like a ton of bricks! Ruins your whole bloody night... If I take aspirins right away, it usually goes away within the hour & I can enjoy myself again. I've been caught out without them before, & I've just had to go home. I've been getting CH's for about 10 years, though for a long time I didn't know that's what it was. As Far as O2 is concerned, I didn't know you could treat it with that till a couple of weeks ago when I read an article about it. Cheers.... John....

John . . . you sound like me when I came here 2/02 I was a heavy beer drinker (2-3 sixpacks per day), having 6-8 ha's per day, and I would take aspirin or Goodies powders (don't know if you have them there, but powdered aspirin or similar). Alchohol was a trigger for me . . . . I just thought the powders were helping, till I found that most CHs are in the 20-45min category (with the occasional 2 hr "dance" All I was doing was eating up my stomach lining with the powders/aspirin . . . most would have whooshed away on their own. Do try 02. Check the link to the left and since you're up anyway (it's almost 4 a.m. here) go to the "Treatments,Medications" board and look at the 02 poll that cheryl started. If it works for you, you can kill the beast in minutes . . . . and save your stomach lining. WATER/WATER/WATER . . . . and stay off the beer while in cycle. Best to ya' Richard

Hey Richard... I do like a beer or 2, But I don't hammer them down as if there's no tomorrow. Having said that, trying to abstain from beer in the summer in Australia is about as futile as hoping that David Letterman will eventually say something funny!! When I'm going through a cycle I always seem to get hit with the pain in the late afternoon / early evening. It doesn't matter what I'm doing. Beer or no beer! It's 6.41pm here now and still no CH, so I think I can now say I've been PF for 5 days in a row! Woohoooo!!!!

PF for well over a week now! Think I may have cracked it for a while. 5 weeks of CH's is a long time for me, though I seem to getting off lightly compared to some people on this forum. Best of luck & long PF periods for everyone. Cheers.... John....
