Don't know if I can cope...

I have just started another cycle...lived in denial the last 3 days as I was able to deal with the mild headaches. But last night I had two bad ones. What is hard is knowing that they are going to get stronger as the cycle goes on. I have 4 kids and husband working long hours...not much support. Older kids remember how to help mommy when she is sick, but home with two little ones today. After last night I don't even have the energy to change a diaper. I am feeling very down and not able to give the kids the attention they need. Just want to curl up and cry. Looking for some encouragement and advice from moms.

Hi cheryl...welcome and sorry you're here. We Moms are amazing. In spite of your suffering and fatigue, you will somehow manage today. Just like you do everyday. Since you have older kids, I can see that you managed before. All we can do is what we can do. So, if the diaper stays on a little longer...the baby will still be fine. Take a nap when the little ones nap, cereal can be a nutritous lunch and TV can really hold a little ones attention. Disney and nick jr are godsends for a CH mom. You know this cycle will pass, so it's just temporary. Soon you can get back to being supermom. Hang in there....huggss and pain free wishes, nani

Hi Cheryl, You are not alone.... I understand...really...and it's okay to feel this way. I'm a mom, I stay at home, two boys(6 and 10) and I know I've said that very same thing. and I know I've actually curled up and cried too. You do not have to be superwoman here....just concentrate on the things you have to do and then try to relax a little. Even if its for only ten slow breaths...then try ten more....You are not letting anyone down. How old are your kids? Maybe you can just read the kids stories in bed or declare a pajama/tv/movie day for fun. Or declare one for yourself. read around here..it helps..if you can. Is there a friend or family you can call to help you today? I wish I lived close enough to come over myself. feel free to PM me if you want.... Be well and Pain Free, lionsound

Hi Cheryl, Sorry to hear you're having a rough time. Have you been diagnosed with clusters? What meds or methods do you use to battle your pain? One thing one of the moms here did was to have a special toybox for her kids when they were little. They were only allowed to get into that toybox when Mom was having a cluster. When she'd feel one coming on, she'd go get the box and give it to them and it kept them busy while she was hurting. Worked wonders with her kids. Just a suggestion. I see you're in Simcoe....we have some clusterheads in your area who are moms. Please feel free to come over to the OUCH Canada and meet some of your cluster neighbours. http://www.clusterheadaches.ca All the best, Cheryl - please tell us more about your symptoms and what you're doing to relieve your pain. There's lot of folks here with battle strategies and there may be something you haven't tried yet.

Cheryl, I just started another cycle, the last one ended in Oct - I thought I had a 2 year hiatus coming my way and this really sucks!! You can and will cope because you don't have a choice. I have 2 small boys and it is not easy to manage. I found that putting in a video, tv, etc really helps keep them occupied while I am having an episode. Are you taking any meds? They really can help with the intensity and duration. We are here for you!!!! Keep reading and posting, it's great to be with people who truly understand what you are going through. Hugs, Valerie

Wow...thanks for the hugs. I really needed them! Thanks for the advice, too. I don't need the added pressure of a guilt trip...thanks for reminding me that the kids will be okay watching tv and eating cereal once in awhile. I have had clusters for 20 years. Tried different meds, but then gave up going to doctors until a few years ago. Had a doctor that helped me, but then I changed doctors while pregnant with my youngest girl(16 months old) and this doctor has no experience with clusters. I have had success in the past with Immitrex injections (but started to react after a few weeks of twice daily injections), then tried Maxalt wafers (only worked for 2 weeks), Zomig didn't work, and am now trying Amerge which only seems to work half the time. I have tried O2 at the emergency room and it didn't work, but I am thinking that I was beyond help then. I can't get in to see my doctor so I am going to try an after hours clinic and maybe I can get a prescription for oxygen. I don't know if I should try maxalt again. It worked quite well, but only for the two week period both times I tried it. Has anyone else had this experience? I am starting to feel better just because I have hope that the oxygen may work. I think that I will rent some kid videos (no school tomorrow) and get some healthy snacks so the fridge is full for the next few days and some easy food to prepare. It helps just to know that the kids will be okay. Thanks again
