23 days of 2am headaches a fluke?Hmm

This is how I'm looking because of the lack of sleep. Im hoping that this is some random, strange thing going on with my head, is that possible? Names Melanie, 31, lived with migraines since I was about ten, 4 kids, 2 pituitary tumors and now this... oops I probably shouldnt have put the little kiddies in there huh! So, tell me what you think of the last 23 days of my life. January 1st, gave the sweet hubby a new years kiss goodnight around 12am, fell asleep and woke up to the most terrifying pain that I have ever felt in my eye, I thought it was a migraine, popped 100mg of imitrex, got a tummy ache rocked moaned and spewed out random gibberish( looking back I realize, geez THATS the first time I ever wanted movement during a migraine) and passed out about 50mn later cuz the pain was, poof, gone. I thought thank god, meds kicked in. Well, hell, I get another one , same time next night and the next .. blah blah blah. So then I think crap, is it scar tissue from my surgerys? Im thinking, no cuz it would be continuous right? Anyhoo.. I end up switching back and forth from imitrx and maxaalt, which makes me loopy and I big no no my docs say (whatEVER) and then im using ambesol, yes the gum numbing crap and globbing it on and as far up in my gums I could get it, even thought of shuving it up my nostril cuz it might hit my eye, gross!!(I didnt) gave myself a bloody eye I broke something I think from cramming my knuckes so hard in my eye and made my tearduck swell, got csf leakage going on, had that once yuk and now I just feel like shit. Scare to death to go to sleep,I used to love to sleep in my squishy bed and now Im deprived of that too!? F*ck! sorry I have no words. Cluster headaches was the very last possible problem thing I looked at on the internet, I had never heard of them. I cried for the rest of the day when I read the symptoms. I think my honey did too..sorry about the spilling of the emotions, and words. Thanks for reading, Mel

Welcome to the board Mel. Have you been diagnosed by an MD or neurologist yet? MRI or CAT scan? You already know about Imitrex due to the migraines.....have you tried the Imitrex auto injector? The med will go to work much faster than the pills. Talk to your doctor about it. Also talk to your doctor about O2. Click the 'oxygen info' button on the left side of your screen. It will help you become educated about O2 use and you may have to educate your doctor. Please let us know.

Sounds like some classic CH symptoms. Better get to a neurologist. Try the cluster quiz over to the left of your screen. Before you lose your sanity, remember, they will probably go away and stay away for months or years. Most of us are able to find some releif, but it will take work on your part. I hope it isn't CH. Is it illegal because it's dangerous or is it dangerous because it's illegal? Our drug laws are ruining lives.

Hi Mel, First thing - start a HA diary. Include time of day (or night), how long, intensity, what did or didn't help. Backtrack as good as your memory will allow. Then - run ... don't walk ... to your neuro or doc. Your next step is to get a proper diagnosis. That might require an MRI to rule out other things - particularly with your history. Most clusterheads find the Imitrex pills slow to work. Injections are much, much faster. Once diagnosed, you'll also probably need a good preventative like Verapamil or another calcium-channel blocker. I beg you now, however, to stop mixing your triptans unless they're 24 hrs. apart. Please read this. Print it out and take it to your doc. It's been very helpful to many here seeking treatment for clusters. I'm one of them. http://www.future-drugs.com/admin/articlefile/ERN020304.PDF Hugs, Kris

Hi Mel, welcome I am so sorry about the reason you are here but am glad you found out because not knowing is a terrible and scary thing, at least you can take some sollice in knowing there are a lot, "a lot" of of "Clusterheads" in the world probably one of your next door neighbors. Please don't give up the "Beast" will one day be tamed. Right now I am coming off of a 5 year remission and am right in the middle of my 5 wk cycle getting 2 - 3 a day and found the WATER trick, just try drinking water I have been slugging it back, about 5 oz / hour and my cycle is almost gone, am getting 2 - 3 a day but they last 5 min awesome feeling when you've won the battle for the night and know you can go to work without an eye patch. Good luck to you and everyone who has talked to me, it helps. Bye Mel.

Welcome to the board. You might try Melatonin for the nightime hits. It has worked very well for alot of us here. Hope things get better for you. PF vibes, Jean

Hi Mel, It sounds like unfortunately you have CH's. Take the cluster quiz. You should find a good neuro so he can get you started on the proper meds to abort the attacks. Read all you can in the meds section. You'll need to sound like you know what you're talking about to get the meds you need. on Jan 24th, 2005, 11:24pm, mclexie wrote:I get another one , same time next night and the next .. blah blah blah. |
| Yep, that's how attacks occur for most of us. It's a never ending nightmare to say the least. Same time everyday. Quote:I end up switching back and forth from imitrx and maxaalt, |
| Not a good idea. Check with your doc. You should be very careful switching meds. Quote:gave myself a bloody eye I broke something I think from cramming my knuckes so hard in my eye and made my tearduck swell, got csf leakage going on |
| Most people get a bloody eye that runs. Normal for a Cluster headache. Take care Mel.
