I suffer episodic cluster headaches, and have so for the the last 6 years.  At first I couldn't figure out what was causing them. Was it be stress? Coffee addiction? Diet? Perhaps sinus alergies because they seemed to come and go with the seasons.

I was finally diagnosed by primary care physician two years ago when I told him that the pain was the worst I have ever experienced, and that it would often occur the same time every night after I fell asleep. This must have sparked a memory from his medical training, because he immediately uttered the words CLUSTER HEADACHE, finally giving name to what tormented me.  He sent me for a CT scan, and prescribed prednisone and verapamil.

Armed with this new knowledge, I went to webMD and saw that my symptoms matched almost perfectly their description of cluster headaches( I sometimes get very nauseous). I also saw the rate of incidence for clusters was less that 1%- Jeez, I probablly don't even know anyone who suffers this, who can I talk to to help me cope with this?

I discovered this board a few months back during my last cycle, I lurk alot and it gives me something to do other than clutching my skull and whimpering until the pain subsides.

It's unfortune that we're all here, but thanks for being here nonetheless. Grin

Come to Davenport Iowa this weekend.  You'll get to meet people that really understand.

Welcome,

This is a great place to be.  We all understand, we really do know the pain.  How old are you by the way?

Haven't you noticed we're all kinda "special" here  Grin

We even have a group dance, sadly it's usually done alone and isn't very enjoyable...

But your here ! Welcome !  hug

Great place for info and answers. I'm the only one registered in my area, so it's great to actually communicate with others who can understand the pain in my head.

High Commander -

You are the only one registered from your area probably because you are one of the only people in your area!  Who lives in Saskatchewan?

I'm only kidding, I used to live in Moose Jaw.  Pretty sparse.  And pretty cold.

Caps -

Thanks.  I am always interested about people's ages and when the headaches began.  Mine began about four years ago, I am 28.

Modified to say: Did you know that the "world's largest moose" in Moose Jaw has, I would say, also the world's largest balls.  Kids in town sneak out and paint them bright orange.
Just some trivia...

Caps, you faired OK, I saw 1 allergist, 1 chiro, and 3 MDs before 1 of them looked it up in a book to diagnose my head.

LMAO ! Probably truer than you know !!

Spent the majority of my time here, but have lived in Regina and Moose Jaw as well. So i've probably met about half of the million people that live in the province....

As for the chill.. it's a balmy -15 today with 6 inches of fresh snow.

I don't know...there's a giant bull statue at Paradise Hill that might offer some competition....not about to go check...it's not that boring here yet.

It's fabulous! I wake up with pain, come to this BBS
and after 45 minutes or so the pain goes away. I contribute this to the healing powers of this site- and to the 45 min duration of my attacks   Wink

That stinks, all that wasted time and co-pays- plus not getting treaded properly for your problem. Yeah, I was lucky that my doc figured it out immediately. The prednisone seemed to break the cycle pretty quicky, but after I tapered off of it the headaches returned, and the verapamil didn't seem to be that effective at the time.

Also, does anyone else have problem with 'roid-rage!

while on the prednisone?

Not on pred but have had ROID RAGE,possibly unrelated. Plenty of water and six to eight pieces of fruit seem to keep things flowing fairly smoothly, if possible have a bit of ruffage, a hand full of peanuts help daily, well chewed of course.
