i cant type so i apologize first. i have been a sufferer since 95'. they are always on the left side of my head. i am almost always waken up by them and only a couple handful of times had the beast while i was awake. i have had them every year at least once since 95'. 2004 i was PF thank GOD. my doc gave me verapamil and ergotamine in the begining but switched me to zomig when it came out.i like it cause it works. my dad passed away 2 years ago oct. and when he was here he was on oxygen. when my headaches started he would always have a spare tank and let me have it after i read about it here.i would suck on pure oxygen for 5-10 min. and it worked great almost every time. i am self employed and without health ins. or should i say a "statistic". i miss the oxygen, and miss my dad.  i get my zomig samples from a few docs i know. i am now in a cycle. my headaches started one week ago today. on the kip scale im normally 7-9.  this time i am being woken up between 3:00-6:00am, i run down stairs and take 2-3 asprin and make one super killer instant coffee(for the caffeine) then sit and pray to GOD and thank him for this unusual mild episode. for the past week i have been getting away with this method, for how long who knows. this has been a strange but relieving past 2 cycles. i posted here in 99' and talked to margi, i now have a computer and missed this place, and i wanted to thank her for the advice. i was in a cycle(bad one) and for 4 nights in a row before going to bed i took 4 asprin and 2 benadryl and was PF all 4 nights. margi said to be careful of the benadryl because i wasnt getting REM sleep. after the 4th night the beast came back with a vengence. i hope to stay here to meet new people that have the same thing. i truley wish everyone here nothing but the absolute very best. this is without a doubt the best place to be, to learn and talk with other sufferers

Welcome Freddy and I'm sorry you're here. Look at the link on the left for oxygen info. You can get welding oxygen, I believe. Nighttime hits are often helped a great deal by Melatonin, an inexpensive OTC supplement. Look on the medications board for info on that. The meds board also has ideas about other nonmed treatments, like ice and heat. Stick around, ask questions, and read. There is nothing better than knowledge to help fend off this nightmare. Pain free wishes to you....nani

Hi Freddy and Welcome!

If Oxygen worked for you and you're self-employed welder's oxygen would be a good idea.  If you haven't already, check out the link to the left on it.

Here's hoping you get an upper hand on this cycle before the hits get too bad.

hi Freddy and WELCOME from me too - sorry you have to be here, but welcome home!
Do get the oxygen, it definitely seems to be the #1 abortive.
DONT take any more aspirin for hits, I know this from experience.  You might think its helping when your pain goes away in 20-30 mins or whatever, but its not the aspirin, your hit just ended anyway.  I used to take aspirin and/or codeine/aspirin, and I now truly believe they contributed to number and intensity of hits.  Since I found this site I stopped taking them for hits, and found most of my hits were over in 20 minutes anyway.  Just try it a couple of times until you get your oxygen - get your usual coffee, and use heat or ice (whichever feels best for you), and time the length of your hits without meds...
For my part, I was all set to get oxygen but my night hits stopped the first night I began WATER WATER WATER - the very first night I got 5 hours sleep in a row and just a small hit on waking.  Then 4 nights PF... Now Ive had no hits since new years eve.  My last cycle lasted 5 months, this one was kicked in the butt by WWW and over in 2 months  Cool

And keep reading here and on the main pages - info = knowledge = strength + relief

take care & keep strong - and please keep in touch & let us know how you're doing
 hug
