Hello people! I have been a sufferer now for 19 yrs. When I stumbled on to this site yesterday I felt like a alien coming home, I couldn't believe the stories I was reading felt like I could have been the author to all of them. Until now I knew there was others like me somewhere (because of books) but never have met anyone suffering the same as I. I am one week into my cycle, usually lasts about 3 months 1 to 2 a day. I have a oxygen tank coming in two days, would like to know how well it works and or anything else you can tell me. I live in a small town and my "small town doctor" was no use in knowing much about it. Unfortunatly I have lived in small towns most of my life where docs come and go not many even new anything about ch. I am so glad to have found this site and have people to talk to who understand finally! I now know my crazy thoughts when a attack hits is normal, Thank you for I know people here understand what I mean when I say this

Hello Maureen, Its nice to meet you! I'm glad you have O2 coming, I love it, it works really well for me but you do most definitely need to use it correctly or it will be practically useless. You need to use a non rebreather mask, see the oxygen info button on the left and you need to have it at high flow rate. this varies from person to person, I have heard of people using it at 8 litres per minute right up to the full 15. I have it set at 12. one thing I did find very helpful was that after the old noggin calms down to keep breathing at a lower rate for another 10-20 minutes. This helps me prevent rebound headaches. On the medications and treatments board there is a whole post about O2 help which you may find very helpful to read. There is some good advice and information on there. In the meantime carry on reading about different treatments available so you can take the info back to your doctor and discuss it further with him! Wishing you luck! Helen PS Let us know how you get on with the O2 and ask as many questions as you like, we will all do what we can to help!

Hey Maureen - welcome. Sorry you have to be here, but you'll find a ton of support from the fine folks here. You may also want to check out www.clusterheadaches.ca. It's the Canadian site and you'll meet several nice folks there as well. There are a number of them in the BC area so perhaps you will even get direction to a new doctor or just some idea of who's there and even get to meet one or two of them in person. Carol
