Thanks to the folks who started/run this site.  Wow!  I AM impressed!!!
My son, who is 14, started experiencing what I'm presuming are CH's when he was about 7 or 8.  What is slightly different than what I've read on this site so far - is his 'attack' lasts for about 1-4 hours (the extreme pain that is) and then he's done until the next attack which can range from 2 weeks to 4 months later.  EVERY OTHER symptom is the same; debilatating extreme pain and swelling in his left eye (every time), extreme congestion, vomiting, redness on one side near his eye.  He does not experience repeating attacks within the same day however.  And I'm guessing that I should be extremely thankful for at least that.
I'd like to ask if there is anyone else out there who does not experience the 'cluster' portion of the cluster headaches - but experiences recurring highly symptomatic cluster headaches?
After yesterday's attack - which unfortunately was worse in severity, we're thinking that it is time to look into CH remedies....but thinking that the doctor world will not see the link since the clusters are relatively far apart...????
Any similar experiences out there??
My heart goes out to all of you.
Regards,
Mum

Welcome Mum and I'm sorry you are having to look here to help your son. It would be a terrible thing if he did CH. I think you need to find a good neurologist who is familiar with CH and other vascular headaches. My first episode was at 16, and it's hard enough on adults...much worse for children and teens. If he does get a CH diagnosis, there is a lot of info here and at the OUCH site. Look around now and get info to take with you to the dr. Good luck to you and pain free wishes to your son.

Hi Mum,

Sounds more like "classic" migraine symptoms to me.  I'm sorry for his pain and hope you get a good diagnosis.  Good luck!

Hey Mum,
Sorry to hear your son has been suffering for so long. You say the headaches are 2 weeks to 4 months apart. That does not sound like Cluster Headaches to me. But I'm not a doctor. Cluster Headaches are called that because they come in clusters or cycles. 2,3,4 or more a day/night for weeks or months on end.
On the left side of your screen is a 'cluster quiz' button. Click it and have your son take the quiz. Please let us know what the results are.
And, please get your son to a neurologist. Life is tough enough for a 14 year old. He shouldn't have to suffer headaches too.
