Hello, my name is Jim and I'm a clusterholic.    I have had cluster headaches for the last 15 years.    Like others, I went to different Doctors and Chiropractors but none could tell me what I had.    Finally got serious and had a cat scan and finally a nerosurgeon told me I had what was known as "cluster headache".   It felt good to know what I finally had.  He prescribed something that didn't work and for the last 5 years I have been trying to figure out my own cure or at least what triggers them.  As I'm sure alot of you have.   Nothing has come of my tries as to date.    I have been recently trying to tie in the time the aches begin to the weather.   Seems to be a connection.    I have been keeping track of when the head ache occurs and what the Bar. pressure is at the time plus humidity and such. Well, enough rambling.   Great to be at this site and see others cures and opinions. Jim

Welcome jimmie and sorry you're here. What med did your dr prescribe? It's a good idea to keep a headache diary. Include info as to what you ate, etc. Pain free wishes to you...

Welcome to the website.  Sucks that you had a reason to come looking for us, but damned glad you found us.

As you have no doubt discovered, the links to the left have tons of good info in them.  There is even more on the OUCH website.   Read everything you can and print stuff out that seems applicable.  Unfortunately, you may end up teaching whatever doctor about CH.

Here is a link to read and print and take to your doctor.  It describes preventative, transitional, abortive and surgical treatments for CH.

http://www.future-drugs.com/admin/articlefile/ERN020304.pdf

Here is a link to some non-prescription alternatives different people have used to help with the pain:

http://www.clusterheadaches.org/resources/non_script_treat.htm

If you are currently taking medications, I would suggest you talk with your doctor before taking any of the nutritional supplements.  At the very least check for interactions at a website such as:

http://www.drugdigest.org/DD/Home/AllAboutDrugs

Nutritional supplements can interact with prescription meds just the same as some prescription meds interact with each other.  Better safe than sorry where your health is concerned.

Oxygen is an excellent abortive.  Works for most people when used properly.  Defintely try this.  As well as it works, I have a hard time understanding why more doctors do not prescribe it.  If your doc won't prescribe it for you, you might try welder's O2.  It's the same pure oxygen used by medical suppliers.  Many people here use it and would be more than happy to help you set it up.  Here is a link that tells about using O2 and shows a setup using welder's O2.

Again, welcome to CH.com.  There's no better place in the world for info and support.

Hey Jim,

I, too, am a Newbie and I want to say "welcome aboard" and sorry you are here.  It is a great place for info,  support, and interaction with fellow sufferers.  I suffered for well over 20 years before I got any results from medicative aids, so hang in there.  Yeah, oxygen is a godsend.  Imitrex, too, but it is a scarry drug.  I guess most of them are.  I never could put a finger on triggers cycle-wise.  During an episode the quickest way to get an attack is to consume any alcohol, otherwise I am not alcohol sensitive.  Good luck!!

I am glad you found us Jim.  Sucks we all have to be here but such is life!  I am looking forward to getting to know you.  I don't know that there is any connection with weather and this horrible disease, but I hope you find some relief soon.  O2 has been my battle gear of choice.  Works fantastic for me Thank God!  Takes about 15-20 minutes at 15LPM but knocks the beast on his butt!   Grin  I prefer the o2 because I hate taking meds but I would eat dog poop if dr. told me it would abort these things!  READ, READ, READ and arm yourself with as much info as possible for your next dr. visit.  Keep us updated!
