Its a huge relief to have found this site, mostly because I am losing faith in my Doctor grrrrrrrrrr. I was reading some of the posts and LMHO. Eeps I need to do my profile sorry guys ::bites nails:: I have three horses, and two dogs which keep me busy. I train dogs, horses and people to be around the above. Lots of great info on the board I hope to learn some "secrets" to managing the pain. Thanks for allowing me to be part of the board! I look forward to chatting with all of you.

Welcome to the board. I’ve noticed there has been a few new people here from Arizona lately.

Go down to the Meetings and Gatherings section and then scroll down to the message ‘How many in AZ are Interested’. Maybe you can meet others near you.

I'm new to the board but have more experience than I like with CH. Welcome, always good to see another newbie. There is enough stuff on here to keep you reading for a while. A lot of the coping tips have helped me and I'm always looking for more things to try.
If it isn't too nosey, w'What kind of dogs do you train?

All the best and welcome.

Not too nosey at all Jack, I mostly work with obedience dogs. I would really like to get into service dog work and some protection work. Lately I havent worked anything much and my dogs both show it  Undecided. But I am sure they appreciate the time off.

Nice. Our dog just died of old age a few weeks ago and we're thinking of getting another. Right now in Saudi, the ability to bite is a good thing. I'm thinking of getting a rotty or a Neo. Are those usually hard to train? I'm talking simple obedience and socialization, not anything too advanced.
We like large dogs, our last was half St Bernard and half Husky, a huge and weird looking thing that was the very best of beasts. We were sad to lose him.

All the best

Grin Grin GrinGood to meet you,  I'm new too,  Just found the sit about a week ago and have already learned more from this than any ten Dr.'s Ive seen.  My wife and I have an on going argument on which dog will be the next.  She want's a Pug and I want an Irish Wolf.  Which will be the more trainable of the two.  Hope all goes well with you CH's.    Mike

Hi, good to meet you, your job sounds fun.
I have a dog his name is Magee, he is a tri-color Border Collie, he is 2 and a half and my first dog.
I love him, he keeps me sane.

Unfortunatly its not my full time job I still work an 8-5 doing boring accounting. Jack I havent really had much experience with Neo's hmm my friend had mastiffs and he loved the breed but its all in what you are looking for. I did have a rottie I rescued which weighed 65 pounds @ 2 1/2 yrs old. She turned out to be a pretty nice dog. She had some aggression issues but they were managable. One word of advice dont buy Arizona bred Rotties they all have "issues". Are you looking for a protection dog? I love rotties but I will never "rescue" another one. I have had so many bad experiences from getting "free" rotties because people dont know how to raise them properly, I have only had one "Happy" ending. If you want a protection dog get a puppy bred for it and raise it properly.
SOrry this is all running together congrats on getting an older dog for a first dog and a boarder collie at that, they are amazing dogs. They are so versitile and energetic. And Yes they do keep us sane sometimes  Undecided. Ummm I havent been around alot of Irish Wolfhounds (if that is what you are referring to) They are bred to do field work so it would require more excersize than a pug and might be more distructive. We had  a little pug that helped herd the cows into the milking barn, she was awesome! A small breed dog you might consider is a Papillon (sp). They have a "normal" nose so you dont have as many health problems related to the smashed faces. Highly intelligent, they are compared to boarder collies in the toy group. In any situation please do not purchse a dog from a pet store they are all puppy mills commertial or "back yarders". Unhealthy and no temperment history. Find a reputable breeder do research and get a puppy that suits your needs. Hopefully I covered everyones ?'s

That was a lot of great information. I wish you the opportunity to work with the dogs full time, sounds like it is the love of your life.
Magee(the BC) is a very smart dog. I don't no how to post pictures on this site yet, but If I did I would share him with you. He is beautiful.
Hope you are doing good, hope to hear more from you soon.

Cynlee
Thanks for the info and sorry for not answering sooner. I had to go to Bahrain for a couple of days. I used to have a BullMastiff and loved him, such a big friendly, lovable kind of dog.
I am looking for a protection kind of dog due to where we're living right now. Saudi is a bit "iffy" for Americans. I need one that is controllable though. I've been around some Rotties and especially Dobermans that were twitchy as hell. You knew they were going to bite someone. Trouble was, you were never quite sure who it would be. Shocked
My daughter is all in favor of a Neo but I'm not sure I'd care for that much drool. Maybe a bullmastiff or a (well-trained!) rottie. My wife is Thai and tiny but does the dominance thing very well with dogs.
A lot of the choice will be made by simply checking what we can get over here. Our last dog was a mutt but a good beast nonetheless and his death was a wrench.
I need a lazy kind of dog that enjoys laying around the house. I've seen some dogs that seemed too hyper to be easily controlled.
Anyway, thanks again and welcome again.

Thank You for the information as well.  I have been gone for a couple of days and have not been able to respond but I do appreciate your input.  Excuse my spelling but I did mean Irishwolfhounds.  I wanted a dog to keep me company while I'm in the woods and my wif thinks that Pugs are just the cutest dogs on the planet.  Don't quite know what to do yet but thanks.  Mike Undecided Undecided

Ever heard of Cane Corso's? Hopefully this is not a no no but check out animalattitudes.com. The trainer is located in AZ he has one he does protection with. I think it is one of the most exquisite, and intimidating dogs I have ever met. I dont think they drool alot either, might be the best of both worlds.

Thanks for that. I'll take a look at these beasties and see what they're like. I've never even heard of them. It would be nice to have a dog around the house again. My daughter really misses our beast.

Thanks again and PFDAN to you.
