AT 7am, eyes pop open, I have a K 7 or a K 8
Make myself stop crying long enough to start coffee.
Close drapes, pace, turnthe TV on but down low so the noise won't make me cry harder....  Can't sit and watch it; but have to try to focus on the news so I don't focus on the pain.
    (left eye droopy, tearing, left nose stuffed up.)
Pressing on the left eye, leaning to the left and tucking head into left arm....nothign helps ease it, but can't help trying.
 
by 8, it is easing, fading, draining away.
Can at least eat now, and get ready for work.
Run across the street and rush to clock in,
dart into the classroom, and grab about 10 hugs
form the tiny tots.  they clammor for me to play with
their toys, and read them books and dance with them.
 
close to 11, the monster knocks on my head...to see
if I will let him come in and play.  but Diapers and
settingup lunch and chasing tots to the sink...so he stays at a k-5 or k-6 and I try not to wince as we
clean kids and coax them to nap.  Now that it is quiet ad calm.... now the monster starts to play louder....
I'll be lucky if I get out of the dance before the kids start to wake up....but then, as the kids wake up, it drains away again.
 
By 5 or 6, as the children are picked up and taken home,
as the room quiets down and I tuck toys back to the shelf, the monster knocks again.  But I have less than 5 minutes to grab al the garbage and used dishes and take them to the kitchen and clock out and rush home....
so I can hold back the paion to a 5 ... at least I hope.
 
but as I get home,(6:30) and start to unwind,
get comfy on the couch to watch the evening news... well, the monster senses the adrenaline is waning,
andhe starts his game again.... this will be the big time.
an 8 a 9....who cares, it hurts too much to measure....
time to rock, to pace, to push my eye to beg hubby for
relief.....man it hurts, 20, 30 minutes.  then it ebs to to a 7 or a 6.  By 8:30 it kicks back up to an 8 or 9....
cann't watch my shows....can't go to sleep, can't
do the dishes, can't nothing.....
by 10, it's gone, I'm exhausted and crawl into bed.
 
How manymore days will the drama play on?
Sometimes 7, sometimes 14,  then it's gone for months
 
PAtterns?  hah.  No patterns.  Sometimes weather  
sometimes hot dogs,  sometimes tunafish....
then again.... sometimes not..... lol.....

Hope your dance with the monster gets shorter,
the pain gets smaller, and the cost of the drugs
disappears.....lol   (hey, a gal can dream, can't she?)

Indeed, that's the way it is, just accept it. I know it's not easy but, and this one keeps me alive... it wont kill you and after a hit you get some time off, sometimes not a lot but still. Just hang in there. Look at my bottom line and try it.  hug

I went through a cycle in my final year of college, taking 39 hours of engineering courses - I thought I was going to die.
 
But I can't imagine going through CHs with a whole bunch of kids around. There is no way I could do it. I can't take noise, movement, distraction - I have to focus on the fight too much.

Sorry you have to deal with this horror and here is something that worked for me and fortunately it doesn't cost a thing.
 
Dr. Wright’s Circulatory Technique  
 
What follows is a technique learned from a neurologist:  
I am not sure what mechanism is triggered by this but whatever it is, at least indirectly helps kill the pain. I do know that this technique has nothing to do with meditation, relaxation, or psychic ability. It is entirely physical and takes some work. It involves concentrating on trying to redirect a little circulation to the arms, hands, or legs. It can described as a conscious circulatory flexing. Increased circulation will result in a reddening and warming of the hands. Try to think of it as filling your hands with redirected blood. The important and difficult part is that it has to be done without interruption through the pain. Do not give up in frustration. It may not work on the first try. Every now and then it will work almost immediately. I lived for those moments. Try experimenting between attacks. You will find that it gets easier with practice.
 
I was given less than five minutes instruction in the use of method. The doctor, while placing his arm on his desk, showed me that he could slightly increase his arm and hand circulation. After several attempts, I was able to repeat this procedure and use it successfully. I have had about a 75% success rate shortening these attacks. My 20 minute attacks were often reduced to 10 minutes or less. Once proven that I had a chance to effectively deal with this horror, I always gave it a try as I had nothing to lose but pain.
 
Perhaps it will help if you think of it as trying to fill the arm as if it is were an empty vessel. I used to try to imagine I was pushing blood away from my head into my arm. Use your imagination. There is one man who wrote that his standing barefoot on a concrete floor shortened his attacks. This may be similar as it draws some circulation away from the head. Cold water, exercise, or anything affecting circulation, seems to be worth a try. My suggestion is to not let up immediately when the pain goes. Waiting a minute is probably a good idea. So long as you do not slack off, this has a chance of working.
 
This technique is very useful while waiting for medication to take effect or when none is available. It costs nothing, is non-invasive, and can be used just about anywhere. It is not a miracle but it helped me deal with this horror. It can be a bit exhausting but the success rate was good enough for me and a cluster headache sufferer will do just about anything to end the pain. It gives us a fighting chance.
