My Story-y'all

Hey now folks!
SeVen here, from Louisville, Kentucky.
I cannot say in words what this site has meant to me these last 4 weeks.
I have learned a lot while suffering, and want to give each of you a hug who endures these each and every day…I just don’t know how you cope with it….

Here is my story…I will try and be as descriptive as possible…which makes for a long first post..Whew!
I had, but didn’t know at the time, a months worth of C’s 10 years ago, and they just returned 4 weeks ago….with not a bit of any kind of headache in that 10 years.
I am 52 years (young) type2 diabetic, somewhat active smoker, who likes a wee bit of bourbon on the weekends…Glucophage and Glyburide only…good health other than that….all testable blood components are right where they should be (lucky!).
The first week of these current attacks I didn’t know what was going on!
I actually did a Yahoo search on c-headaches and found this site.
After reading for a coupla days, I decided that, yes…these were indeed clusters, and set about with a great determination to learn as much as I could.
This is what I have found with my case so far….
-nothing seems to trigger it, but it hits after I get home from work at 4pm and then again at midnite to 2am…90% of the time while I am asleep..what a bitch that is waking up with a C!!
-mine last about 45m to 1 hour.
-right side always
-right side of neck becomes tender and stiff also.
-no nausea or aura.
-Kip scale of 8 to 9 usually…don’t think I have had a 10 yet <speedily praying Wink>

This is what I have done to combat the beast….
-went to ER 2 weeks ago on a Fri afternoon-9 hours worth……
-sent home with RX-Imitrex nasal and Imitrex StatDose self injector X2.
-Imitrex inject. worked in 5-7 minutes for me…WEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
-nasal worked in 15-20 minutes…but it DID work!

I have no insurance and went thru my clinic’s support person and got enrolled in Bridges to Access…a group of drug manu. that helps ppl like me with their meds.
I was able to get 6 inject refills right then, with another 5 months worth to be mailed to me monthly....also a RX for 10 StatDose....which was a b**** finding here in Louisville....

I read about the injection trick where you break down the vial/needle thingy and remove one side of the label and mark it into thirds….well…that 1/3rd dose works for me!
So I now have 30 doses instead of 10…WEEEEEE again..hehehehe.

I have been taking for 1 week now::
-2,000mg FeverFew 3X day (6,000mg total 24hrs)
-B-50 complex X1 daily
-12mg Melatonin3 at bedtime
all obtained from GNC

….AND…TA-DAH!!!…no attacks for 3 days now..yes..gotta WEEEEEEE again!!!!!

So now I am thinking…is it the meds….or has it really stopped?
Gonna wait 2 more days before I stop the meds to see….

Y’all keep ur fingers crossed…I hope to report back with a great big smile…but if not, at least I have a bunch of Imitrex <smirk>

I now wish to thank all of those who have took the time to make a post of their results…I sincerely believe it has helped me immensely…!
I also have become somewhat of a “spreader of the word” about this terrible affliction to all those that will listen…but you know…there isn’t many who will listen…..they just nod their head and go “Oh yeal?”
I have to admit, that when you meet another person who has these, you instantly bond and start to question each other about what works and don’t work for them….I reckon cause ppl who don’t get these just don’t understand how bad it hurts, do they??

I thank you for putting up with my ranting and info…hopefully it will help another just as all of you have helped me!!!!

PEACE!

Hi,

Glad you've found this site.
It seems you got a fair treatment at the ER. It doesnt always happen that way, good for you.

Your attacks have been going on for 4 weeks. Could be the cycle is over.
Or, it could be the meds are keeping it under control.

You haven't had an attack for 3 days and you will stop the meds in 2 more days.....
IMHO, keep doing what you have been doing for at least another week.
Please let us know.

Big time ditto on Bob's suggestion.  Keep up the melatonin, etc. for awhile and then taper off.  Glad you have found relief.
