Hi Nancy,

I'm so sorry your husband is in such pain.  It's obvious you are too.

Has he been diagnosed with clusters?  It's a little difficult giving advice without knowing more ...

Hugs,

Kris

I asked my wife ( who has been in your shoes) what would you say? She says" He's in the hospital, he's in good hands. Try to understand the pain and duration of it, that it would make a person do and say things that are not normal for them. Its the beast not the man."
Now its my turn. You have much to do and learn as he has. Don't let it get to you!!! Let him know you are there for him. You will get through this and more.
You mentioned a neurologist. This is a good thing.
Tell him about this site and OUCH. Keep up the good work. hug

The oxygen is going to help.  Make sure he has the right set up.  High flow, nonrebreather mask.  It should work for him but read about getting the right stuff.  Keep working on the right meds.  We're here.

Sorry to hear you and hubby are going through such a rough time.

Check out the supporter's board for lots of help for yourself.  Remember to look after your own well being too.  Sometimes I think the role of the supporter is the hardest one.

Like the others have said, read all you can on this site.  The better informed you are, the more support you will be able to provide and the better you will understand what he's going through.

Hi Nancy, I'm sorry to hear that you're both going through such a rough time.

You say he's in constant pain?  There should be pain free time in between cluster attacks.  Is he not having ANY pain free time?  If he's not, he may have been misdiagnosed.  Read the cluster traits button at the left here and take the Cluster Quiz on his behalf.  If you don't think he fits the description, ask for a second opinion.

If it is cluster, while he's in the hospital, ask that they give him the DHE drip.  That has been a very successful treatment but it does have to be administered while in hospital.

It's hard, Nancy - being a cluster supporter.  Please know that YOU are not alone with this either.  There are lots of us spouses here who have walked in your shoes.  Please feel free to hang out at the supporters' forum or email me directly if you'd like to talk "off the board".  I'm at moxie_miss@hotmail.com.  I've been married to my clusterhead for about a million years now - I know what you're going through.

BIG hugs.

What meds has he tried?  People here know more about cluster medications and doses than most doctors.  It's very common to be "mistreated" when first being treated for cluster headaches.  Ultimately it will be your responsibility (both of you) to find a doctor/med that works best.  You found the best place to start your search. Did you see this yet? http://www.future-drugs.com/admin/articlefile/ERN020304.pdf

Is it illegal because it's dangerous or is it dangerous because it's illegal? Our drug laws are ruining lives.
