Good Morning All

It is 2am here in California and I am up again.   I usually get up at 4am for work so I think I am not even going to bother going back to sleep.  Don't want to deal with that pain when I wake up.

I actually not even sure yet if what I have is cluster headache.  The doctor told me he never heard of my symtoms before and told me to take some pain killer (not to mention names  Tongue ) and if the headache is still there after a few days go back to see him.

My right temple have stabing pain about five minutes after I fall asleep.  It will wake me up, I walk around for five minutes and the pain will go away.  This is only my third night, I slept a total of about 4.5 hours total in all three night.  Right now I am okay, I had less sleep before during my Infantry days and still can operate normally.

It is nice to be in this forum.  Some place to go when I am awake.  Thanks.

Hi there,

No doctor here just a man in pain and a brother to all out there.

Finding docs are as difficult as getting relief.

Pain sucks and definitely keep searching for help.

One thing that struck me in your post is the "5 minute" duration. Take the "cluster quiz to the l<<<eft of the board or click here

TO my knowledge the minute attacks are symptomatic of CPH which may present itself lke CH BUT will definitely respond to Indomethacin (spelling?) If so you are in luck Wink

Research Research Research!!!

Best to you and good luck on your search for relief.

Hi jlynn

As edouble says, 5 minute stabbing headaches are not clusters, even if they come in groups.

There are quite a few headaches types yours could be, but without all the background and symptoms and not being neuros here, it would not be sensible for us to second guess this.
You therefore need to read around as edouble says, but perhaps focus on the more common short-lived ones ones first: idiopathic stabbing headache, PH (paroxysmal hemicrania) SUNCT syndrome.

The good news is that several are completely obliterated by indomethacin in all cases, and there are other useful treatments for others. They are not the same as CH treatments.

Some links for you:

http://www.ninds.nih.gov/health_and_medical/disorders/trigemin_doc.htm

http://www.clusterheadaches.org.uk/home/index.cfm?address=../headaches/t xt_cph.cfm&added=04/01/04&code=CB (and then also use the drop down Headache menu on the left of this link and on the OUCH link to your left here-use the library there)

Hope this helps

Thank you for all your help.  How did your day went?  I had a short day of work today which was nice.  I will definitely continue to look.

My headache only happen when I am trying to go to sleep, if I stay in bed I think the headache will not stop, it stopped I think because I walked around.

And yes, it only happen at night.

Today, going on to my 4th night.  It is about 6 PM and my right jaw started to hurt, I am breathing heavily, it help ease the pain.  I have a hard time concentrating.

I am in the Army and the Doctors in the health clinic is overwelmed during the day.  They don't have the luxury of spending too much time on each Soldier.  Since the clinic closed at night we are authorized to check into the emergency room of a local hospital if something comes up at night.  The service are alot better.  Many Soldiers check in at night intentionally to get better service.  I am thinking about doing it.

Your PCM can give you a referral to a neuro...  You'll probably have to ask for it though.
