Hello everyone,
This pain is so bad and I can't take it anymore.  Cry I find myself crying, pacing, screaming, and nauseous. I'm under 20, but I feel like I've been alive for 60 years with the pain I have every minute of the day, every day. I can relate to some of the stories I have read on this website, but others assure me I do not have cluster headaches. I've been going to the doctor approximately once every two or three weeks for the past two to three years. I've been prescribed about 14 different medications to try to make me feel better, or as my doctor would say to "break the cycle". The medications I've taken were/were for migraine, anti-depressants, anti-seizures, allergies Zyrtec, Allegra, Singulair, Cellebrex, Lorazupam, Flonase, Rhinocort...the list goes on. I have been misdiagnosed with chronic sinusitus, and I have been put on Seftin so many times without having any pain relief, obviously because most of those were not actually sinus infections. I then had blood tests, a CT scan, and an MRI. All three tests came out normal. I was very upset. There is no real pattern in my headaches, mostly because it is one continuous headache that intensifies at different times. I have found that exercise intensifies my headache, but I have not found any other specific things that make the pain worse. I try to forget about the pain and stay positive, and live life like a regular teenager, but it's very hard with this pain, and also when my friends don't understand what I'm going through every second of my life. It is so hard to focus in school. The nerves in my face hurt so bad that I feel like I have a permenant sinus infection, and I sometimes have to leave class and sit in the bathroom for a while, thinking I'm going to vomit. Thankfully I never have actually vomitted. The pain isn't always just in my face, it is in my head also. I have trouble sleeping, and I wake up many times in the early hours of the morning, but I'm not sure if it's from pain. I'm so used to feeling that way. I have taken many headache quizzes for an idea of what kind of headache(s) I have, I always get the same result: We could not find a specific answer with the information you have provided. I could say much more, but I think this has been enough for you to read already. Thank you for taking the time to read this. If anyone can help in any way, please get back to me as soon as possible. Thank you. I hope a cure is found for clusters soon!  Smiley

Im pretty sure if you woke up with clusters.... you would KNOW it's clusters that woke you up.

and clusters arent every minute of every day.

if you're having nerve pain in your face... that doesn't sound like a "headache" problem.  There are nerve disorders.... maybe look into them.

Sorry you're in pain...  hope you find out what it is.

I would strongly suggest seeing a neurologist at once. Need a good diagnositic evaluation before anything else is tried.

If you have tried 14 meds in a short time (months) then you have a doc who is not doing an appropriate job of diagnosing before treating. Plus, some meds take weeks before they become effective with cluster--assuming that's what you have--and so quick changes from one to another is not effective.

You didn't mention using any of the triptans (Imitrex, etc.) to treat an attack. IF you use one and get good, fast relief, that would help make a diagnosis.

But I think a new doc is the first step....

Hope you got some help, don't do what I did.  I was 19 when my cluster headaches started and I trusted my GP to help me.  He tried various prophylatics over the years (none of which helped) but I was never helped with pain relief of any kind and have never been sent to a neurologist.  I'm 56 now and after reading the posts on this site (first time tonight) I'm determined to insist on seeing a neurologist so that any new treatments will be available to me.  I just recently acquired an oxygen cylinder but as the episode was already on the wane I won't know until next time how much use it will be to me.  I braved it out and suffered while my three kids were growing up and had to function with a bag of frozen peas tied over my eye at times.  I had teeth out when my GP insisted it was a dental problem and got little or no help when the dentist sent me back to the GP.  I only hope that nowadays cluster headache is more widely recognised and treatments are improving.  You need to get diagnosed and I hope for your sake it's not CH.  Good luck!
