I am new to the board

My name is Jason. I have had cluster headaches for over 3 years. I am now 36 years old. I will never forget my first cluster attack. I was in my father-in-law's office in Tijuana, Mexico. I thought my brains were melting. I literally felt like I took a bullet nest to my eye. That attack was without a doubt a 9. I still get 9's and 8's, and sometimes I feel like I want to die. My wife gets so scared when I get that bad because she feels helpless. She knows that she is not allowed to talk to me during an attack, and especially she is not allowed to touch me. She is powerless as am I. Thank goodness I have a wonderful sister who is a neurologist, so she truly understands my situation. Even with proper medications I get a few 6-9 kipscale attacks. I seem to have most in the 4-6 range. I have developed a few routines to help with an attack. (Keep in mind I get my Imitex as much as I want within reason, but it is not a safe drug to use every day, 3 times a day for months...its very dangerous in that quantity). If anyone wants me to share some things that help take the edge off the pain, I will post it in the next message.

Cool. We will help your sister become the best Cluster Neurologist on the planet! For the Trex, you do not need anything near a full dose to knock out a CH (strange CH thingy... we jokingly have been trying to have Glaxxo create a 2mg autoinjector). Have her give you the vials and syringes. Play around with the doses. 1/4 of a normal dose works for me. With such minimal dosing, you CAN take 3+ doses a day perpetually. Sorry that you have this condition, but welcome to the site! Rock!

Hey Jason, I answered your message over on the part of the board so I won't won't repeat myself here. Glad, but sorry at the same time, to hear from a fellow Southern Nevadan. I'm over in Henderson (or as the say here Hendertucky).

I wish I could get the vial form of Imitrex, but since I do get limited supplies for free, I do not ask questions. I am going to teach myself the method described on the website to make a single dose last like 3. My sister (the neurologist) was told about the method, and she said that it is worth a try...however sterility must be maintained. I want to shout from the rooftops that my sister, Dr. Cohen, is the number one neurologist in the universe! Jason Cohen

Jason, Welcome, and it's good news that you have a sister to take care of you. I always emptied the imitrex stat dose into a vial, then drew up my dose into a short, thin diabetic syringe. Works like a charm, and you can get three to four shots out of one dose. I could never do the imitrex tip with a Q tip.....I wait too long for the shot, way beyond any hand/eye coordination. Tracey

| Me too, when possible. It's alot better that way. Especially if you stretch it to 3 shots it's like trying to drive a 16 penny nail into your arm.

Hi...I'm also new to the board. So happy for you that you have a sister that can help. My husband also feels helpless. Basically, I allow him to come near the door to whatever room i'm writhing in pain in at that moment, you know, just in case i scream for him, but basically he and everyone stays away, though i have a niece that sits with me on the floor when she's around, whether i like it or not! Taking Depakote ER right now, with Imitrex tablets to abort them, alsot he oxygen is great. i'm in my 3rd week of this bout. I'm counting the days till this nightmare is over. Well, take care and I'll speak to you soon.
