Please, allow me to introduce myself

Hello, Nice to meet all of you. You can call me Dodie. I am from western NY in the Buffalo area and I just moved back to NY after being in IL for about 8 years. I am educated in animal science and I work for a veterinarian. My greatest love in life are animals, I am partial to horses. I am single with no children . I have been a CH victim for 10 years give or take. I seem to be one of the lucky ones that has been able to identify my triggers. My no no's are smoking and drinking, bright light, lack of sleep, and muggy hot weather. Ive been on all the meds and none work for me, my cures are lavender for relaxation, a cold compress, and a dark room. Prednisone used to break my cycle but did not work this time, still waiting for the end of this cycle with no end in sight. Have Dr. apt soon.

Hi Dodie, Welcome to the board. Hope you take time to read all the info here on this site. You will find some "home remedies" that may work for you. You might check out the posts on melatonin. That is cheap and seems to work for some. Lots of other ideas you may be interested in. Hope you find what you need to control the beast. The prednisone worked for me, but for most folks, the ha's return upon completion of the taper. Guess I was lucky.......I am on my 153rd day PF! Good luck at the doc's office.......hope you find what you need! PF vibes, Jean

Dodie, Congrats in two-parts. One for finding us and the other for escaping this Hell-hole called Illinois. To bad you didn't find us sooner or we could probably have met. Prednisone works for some, less for others (Like most meds) but like Jean said (smart lady, as well as kind and generous to a fault! ) I suggest the same, read up on the info to the left and arm yourself with treatment possibilities for the Doctor. If you search the membership you will find a few CHers in your area (there is no greater experience than to meet one or more in person) Oxygen seems to be the most common abortive along with Immitrex and Verapamil as a preventative. Anyway, just sayin howdy and welcome aboard. Ramon

Welcome Dodie and I'm sorry you have to deal with this horror. You'll find a lot of good ideas and suport here, along with some nonsense. Here is a link to something that worked well for me: http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/ Buffalo area eh? I'm in Jamestown about 80 miles away from the Queen City. Stick around and let us know how you're doing. Charlie

I'm Chuck's keeper, but he seems to have gotten away. If you see him he is harmless! Welcome to the madhouse from one who actually returned to IL. (Maybe I need the keeper?) You will find a lot of good ideas for dealing with CH here amidst all the looniness that we use to try to deal with the horrors. Read all you can and take along any ideas you think are pertinant when you go to your Dr. Don't be discouraged when things don't work for you. (right) Sometimes it takes a while and some trial and error to find what works for you. For me it is Verap and Lithium as preventatives and O2 to handle burnthroughs. Wishing you PFDANs Jerry
