Alcohol triggers

Hello all, Just wondering what people's experiences are with alcohol as a trigger? I'm wondering cause I've never been able to pin this beast. Sometimes I have a glass of red wine and I get a hit, sometimes not. Sometimes it's a beer with a hit, sometimes not. I don't get it. Can't it be one way or the other!>!>!>!>!

I'm sure you will find that most say that alcohol is a trigger. It is for me anyways! UNsolved

When I'm in cycle I can't touch a bit of alcohol, I even think about it and I'm banging my head off the wall. It kind of sucks, right now I'm in cycle and have a Christmas party this weekend, all the free booze you can drink, and I can't touch a drop, oh well

most of the cycles ive had over the past 8 years can be accredited to a nice cold beer its the fast way to start a cycle for me and from what ive read most will say the same thing its best to not drink if your a ch head.

In my cycles over the past twenty-eight years Alcohol was never a major problem. In this present cycle it has proven to be deadly. Twice I made the mistake of making myself a Rum/Coke and BAM !!! About fifteen minutes after sipping the drink I was in agony. So I have basically switched to water, or something like juice watered down. I miss it, but it will have to do.

VERY common. It doesn't trigger attacks for me though. I used to stay away out of fear then I realized it wasn't effecting my CH so I imbibed. I don't get shanty yet once in a while I knock back a few with no ill effects

I've been episodic, then chronic. I've pretty much given up drinking all together, because it always triggers ch. Or, at least, mild symptoms. Ch was been in remission since April and I've had sip of champagne once and sip of wine once after that and on both occasions ch begin to react soon after. Sanna

Thanks for the all the responses. I think I'll have to watch this a bit more. Sunday, I was PF and at brunch had a few mimosas and nothing! Last night, a beer with dinner, bam. Last week a glass of red wine with dinner, bam! And in previous cycles, I don't remember alcohol having any influence on the hits. And since I started with these when I was 15, alcohol certainly wasn't an influence then either. Changing bodies, changing brains I guess...next cycle will be tortilla chips causing the hits!!!

Alcohol has never been a trigger for me (yet). Get the wake-you-up headaches at night and morning ones mostly so unless I'm sneaking the odd drink when I'm asleep it's safe to say so. As for triggers the one thing I did notice was heat this year. One of the things that helps me deal with the pain actually causes it - that's bizarre. Had a long hot sauna - got hit the moment I came out. Same with a hot bath.

I love margaritas, if they have just tequila and nothing else I can drink one. But say if they add Cointreau or Grand Marnair (?) then no way Jose. Bear does sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. Red wine is ALWAYS a no no. I am chronic. I don't know why it is okay sometimes and sometimes not.

100% trigger of monsterous attacks. When I've been terribly stupid and had a beer or two the result is always long hours of (possibly beyond) Kip10 pain - I no longer touch the stuff. Tom

Keep seeing cold beer mentioned as a trigger. I'm sorry but if it's Budweisser you're drinking what's the problem - everyone knows it has more in common with water than beer. Guinness is good for you

Alcohol is a failproof trigger for me when I'm in cycle. It also seems to make the attacks more severe and harder to abort. Otherwise, I am a daily beer consumer without any CH trouble. I just had my first pain free night since Nov. 13. If I have another one, I may just have to crack one open!!! I haven't had one since Thanksgiving Day. Guinness is indeed good for you......and yummy!

Out of cycle, alcohol has no effect except the intended effect. In cycle, BAM!!!!!! Every time.

Hey there, I’m new to this site [hello!] ...but agree...alcohol is a no-go area for me. Mine just started this week as a nice surprise for xmas so no taking part in the traditional christmas piss-ups for me, boo! Although having said that, i guess i don't know if that is the case this cycle but as much as i love a glass of wine, i am not prepared to take the risk... peppi

Alcohol is my greatest fear by far. Even the smell of beer or wine sets me off. Out of cycle no issues.

For years beer was a trigger, then "nothing". I can now drink a beer with no ill effects (I'm chronic). Other alcohol doesn't bother me. For years I didn't drink anything, but have never noticed any effects at all from alcohol except beer and I just stayed away from it until last year and then tried one and nothing..... Go figure. Some say they can drink white wine, but not red wine. I think it's up to the individual. If it bothers you stay away from it. If it doesn't enjoy..... Hugs BD

| LOL .. after living five years in Germany and then coming back to the USA ... I have to agree on the water analogy !!! When I'm not in cycle, alcohol is not a problem and I've never had it trigger a "cycle" When in cycle, forget it...I avoid it all together... some of the worst CHs I've ever had have been the result of alcohol trigger.

I have done extensive research in the hopes of furthering information available to all cluster heads and have determined that more research is needed. No I have to stay away from my beloved BEER and pretty much all dark liquors. So I have alot of Bloody Mary's! Gin and 7's clear tequila but not clear rum.

Any alcohol drink triggers attack within 30 minutes. !!! Terrible. Proud to tell you... I am PF for 5 days now after a cycle of almost 14 weeks. Had allready quite some "beer-wine" parties since it ended. It is really the best indicator for me that the cycle is over. (who knows for how long ???). I did had Headache 1 morning, BUT IT WAS A NICE HANGOVER ... hahha. I never enjoyed Hangovers untill I got diagnosed CH some 15 years ago. Sorry guys, I feel ok now, that's why I sound so optimistic. This doesn't mean I am not still feeling along with you all, I know what your suffering from. I keep reading your posts, but I guess I don't have much (usefull) input for you untill my next cycle. Feel free to mail me anytime you need support fcourse.

that's funny CHater....now after many years of CH a simple hangover headache is a joke to me while my buds are all complaining "oh my head hurts"...I tell them to shove a vingar soaked fork thru their eye and whirl it around and then they will know what pain is. for me when im in cycle (NOW) beer isn't a problem...neither is the hard stuff....but if I have a sip of wine you better reserve me a room at the ER. so, wine is way off my list.
