Brutal stress and CH
« on: Nov 15th, 2005, 10:11am »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

My daughter Michelle attempted suicide last Saturday and it was very, very close. She is currently at a crises house and tomorrow will be at the Scripps Mcdonald Center for substance abuse, followed by an intensive long term inpatient program.

CH worst I've ever experienced. Gee, do you think stress has anything to do with it? Running on adrenaline, coffee, oxygen and prayer.

Oh Phil thats awful, I'm so sorry to hear it. At least she is getting help but I'm sure you are thrown for a complete loop. Stress seems to make things worse for me too but there are others who swear by stress for helping prevent hits, there are never any easy answers with this condition sadly.
I hope everything works out well for you both, I hope your daughter gets all the help she needs and I hope you can feel confident about that so you can relax a bit.
You'll be in my prayers
Regards
Helen

Wow, Phil...I'm really sorry you are having to go through this with your daughter.  I think stress has a role in CH, although it may be different for each of us.  I had an unusual summer cycle 15 months ago right after returning home from an extremely stressful "vacation".  After the stress is when people often get hit.  At any rate, find ways to relieve your stress as often as you can, and you have my best wishes for getting through this.
Hugs and vibes,

I am a firm believer that stress can make mine worse. While my husband was away in Iraq I went through the most painful period of my like. I am glad to hear your daughter is getting help. Keeping you and your family in my thoughts!

Geez Phil, I'm so sorry about your daughter, but I'm glad you are getting her the help that she needs.  And, DAD, she needs you right now, so you've got to stay strong for her.  Sending prayers for her complete recovery from substance abuse, and for you, to give you the strength you will need to see your child through her crisis.

And, in my humble opinion, yes, stress makes it worse because when you cannot concentrate on your own survival through CH because you are focused on another momentous problem in your life, that's when the beast seems to take advantage and just make it worse.

Hugs to you and your daughter

Thanks everyone for your prayers and support. Later today Michelle will be at the Mcdonalds Center and life for me returning more or less to normal. Sandy I think your thoughts are right on. Was much harder to stay in survival mode when thoughts so spider webed. Good to hear from you Pat and others as well. I've done all I can and there are no dragons to slay - from this point it's all up to my daughter.

We're sorry to hear about your daughter . . .and hope things work out well for her (and you).
As for stress being a trigger . . .yes, for D anyway, without a doubt, stress is a trigger (when in cycle).

Phil,
Sorry to hear about your daughter, but sounds like she's in a good place.
Stress definitely affects my CH when I'm in cycle-doesn't bring on a cycle though.
Will be praying for a return to health and emotional stability for your daughter and PFDAN for you Phil.

Sorry about your daughter Phil, but you're right - it's up to her now. Parents can only worry.

Stress has always kept me pain free - it's the afterwards that hits me hard. But we're all different.

Best of luck to you

BD, your right "what don't kill ya, makes you stronger"
a line I've used for years and it's very true. Daughter admitted yestserday evening to the McDonald Center. Got four phone calls today, she's up and down like a yo, yo but the trend line seems to be up.

This is my second year dealing with CH and still trying to learn what turns a beautiful day into mush. Decided early on that I would not give in to the temptation to give in and think about it as a disability you live with and compensate for, but don't let it take over. I sell real estate, have a private office and can get up an leave pretty much when I want to. Don't report to anybody except the IRS - so in that respect I'm lucky.

Still in all, CH really sucks. Glad your all around.

Phil,

There's someone here 24/7. Post, PM, call someone - we're here and we DO care. Most of us have been where you are (all our lives have been turned upside down by CH and we've all had to deal with family crisis while dealing with CH).

So anytime you need to vent, rant, rave or just need a shoulder to lean on -- we're here for you and we DO understand.

Hugs BD

Hi BD,

A great deal of my life has been spent in helping others.
I'm the current Chairman of Veterans Village of San Diego(www.vvsd.net) and now I'm the guy finding it hard to accept help. I'm being pulled out of my cave and am humbled by the outpouring of support.

Being in cycle and coping with lifes little challenges is a new experience. Sort of like combat with a support group and you DO understand which really makes a difference.

Life is good and when I get up in the morning and have to look down to see the grass, I know it's going to be a great day.
