What meds are you taking? I noticed memory loss while I was taking Imitrex injections............to the point when going from the kitchen to my bedroom, then forgetting what I went to the bedroom for. Memory returned for me when I stopped with the Imitrex...........at least most of my memory. Bob

What UNsolved said. During a period - I still don't know if it is from the meds or the after effects of the hits - I do tend to pick up a few awkward traits such as: Slurred speech - my tongue seems not to know how to form the words correctly anymore Concentration goes out the window - seem to lose my trend of thought Intensified senses - Colours, smells, sound etc. all seem to be more intense But then maybe its just old age with me Thats just me but it does happen. Hope the others can be more helpful, just hang in there! Jas

Jas, Interesting you mentioned slurred speech. I get that too while in cycle, and I don't take conventional meds anymore, so I can't blame the slurred speech on the meds. I don't recall others mentioning the slurring before. But it does happen to me. Bob

The cycle before last, I had a truly horrific cycle. It was longer and the intensity and frequency of hits far surpassed anything I've ever experienced. At the time, I was taking Verapamil and using injectable Imitrex, and after that cycle, went off of them, of course. Since that cycle though, I've noticed that my short-term memory is worse than it's ever been. It's a little scary, sometimes. I've always been a bit absent-minded, but this is really above and beyond that.

Topomax has had this effect on me, and it does seem as though I've never really gotten all my IQ points back. I have a tendancy to think that the stess and sleep deprivation has alot to do with it as well.

| I got to agree lack of sleep and other things have greatly affected my memory and concentration levels especially when in cycle. ok I also have Adult ADD but no biggie. 1 good hit and I always remember the beast.

| Hey Jake, Like many others, and you, I also tend to be a little weak-headed when in cycle. I try to pull words out to speak and stumble, knowing the word but not being able to spit it out. My vocabulary feels as though it drops back to 1-2 syllable words only and I have difficulty concentrating. And then after the cycle, things get back to normal and I am again able to find a way to interweave the word "f*ck" as a prefix or suffix for about any word. Gifted... Scott

Well, I can tell you I was worried i had brain damage or something. For 6 long lonely years, I had Ch and was told it was a migraine....and I sufered loss of energy, dyslexia, confusion ....all sorts of things. I think is is a side effect of the CH... maybe pre-occupied with fighting the beast.... I had a 3 day "remission" in April....because of using steroids for an un-related medical thing... and guess what!!!! For 3 days I had energy, no trouble recalling short-term memory information, no trouble with dsylexia....and I could finally organize a "to-do" list without starting over 5 times. of course once off the steroids, the headaches returned like clockwork, and all the good went out the window. But it was a nice little vacation....and proof enough to me that there is more to the troubleof CH than just pain. (As if it weren't enough) Keeping a specific journal can help you sort out what is related and what just "seems" to be. I now jsut carry around pen and paper EVERYWHERE. That way, when someone accuse me of forggetting, i can flip back and say, "Oh yeah, you did tell me that." and act sheepishly sorry. If they have known me more than a week or two, they know better than to expect any more than that.

| Hey yikes, why don't you tell the person that's telling you something to write it down, then responsibility for remembering is in their pocket instead of yorrs. As you are carrying the evidence of proof of being told you don't get the benefit of deniability which is so valuable as we get older.... Scott

Well I like to try to keep 80% of the promises i make, and I got sick of defending myself. i'd answer the phone and my sister would say, "Can ya babysit for me this Friday?" yada, yada and then she'd go on about something else and we'd hang up. Friday would roll around, and I wouldn't be at her house and she'd call me to say, "If you didn't want to all you had to do was say so..." and I'd swear I jsut plaion forgot about the call... it was causing bad blood to srping up everywhere. Now I got pen and paper, and every night (or each morning) i get out the "to-Do" list and make certain I get things done. With the chronic beast popping up 4 -8 times a day I get a little pressed to remember my address, let alone where i am supposed to be for dinner....

Same... I write down everything!! I'd be lost without a notepad for thoughts, a list of things to do today & in what order to do them!! I keep diaries, and always write in the calendar so that I know what's coming up and remember what I've done. My memory has been terrible for as long as I can remember I have boxes of diaries and notepads dating back 20+ yrs. Without some prompting I couldn't tell you what I did day before yesterday. Kate P.S. This is true for me during a cycle or not... however do notice greater problem with co-ordination and slurring during a cycle.

| Hi Jim, it is one of the typical symptoms of CCH, but medical profession ignore mostly this obvious problem. I´ve hundreds of new tools - screwdrivers, hammers, knives, drills and so on. You find nothing and after 2 hours of search, you buy new at the hardware store. You come back from the store and find the lost item. grrrr. That´s what we named CRS (can´t remember shit) I take a long time (4 yrs) the med piracetam 1200 2x2 daily, when I´ve not the diagnose CCH. Today if I can´t concentrate me, I take the dosis for some days, sometimes for 2 or 4 weeks. The faq´s to piracetam on erowid-site are helpful. http://www.erowid.org/smarts/piracetam/piracetam_faq.shtml the searchresult at google: http://www.google.de/search?hl=de&q=piracetam&btnG=Google-Suche& amp;meta= speak with your neuro about this med. best ete

I have slurred speach, twisted tounge, absent minded, drooling (even when not in cycle ) but the one that bothers me the most is that I don't give a f#ck about anything. I go into this self preservation mode and end up hating everything and everyone....ya know, in a different thread I posted that Deoakote didn't change my mood but now it's got me wondering...Hmmmm.

wow you really started some thing here! Seems we all have similar symtoms specialy on the Topomax (dopomax). Yes durring a cycle I will slur speach and be forgetfull! I have always been a bad speller no matter what! LOL if I am in the throws of a CH I sometimes look like a stroke patient, sound like one too. I forget all kinds of stuff it hurts too much to think. Litteraly I cant talk or find words I need. I dont think you have much to worry about sounds like we all have similar problems. dodie

After this last cycle, I've had much more trouble with spelling. I am usually very finicky about it, but have had some embarrassing mistakes lately. I've had memory issues for quite a few years, but thought it was just me. Maybe it was the CH . . . Thanks. I learn something every time I log on . . . Namaste, --Scott

I noticed that you spelled memory loss wrong twice. Once in the subject line... Once in the body of the letter. While complaining about misspelling words.... Did you know that you were spelling memory loss wrong... or do you prounce MeMory with a N in the middle.... seems a little trollish to me.... just curious ree
