Green Potatos

Hi All, I was once telling a group about my CH when an old lady (who I thought was nuts) came up and told me not to eat green potatos. I smiled and thought that she had reached new heights that day. Two years later my wife tells me after a particularly bad CH, that the previous night we had green potatos for dinner. I've also recalled that many CH's have hit me after having chips (fries), and we all know that fast food joints would not care about using green potatos. Anyway I know that everyone is different and even my triggers are more complex than just potatos, but I thought that it might be helpful for others to consider. Matt.

Thanks for the heads up man. I hadn't thought of that one, and I mean really, who would? Unless you were a crazy old lady. Glad you found at least one of your triggers. Casey

Solanine in potatos is toxic. from Wikipedia: "When potato tubers are exposed to light, they turn green and increase glycoalkaloid production. This is a natural defense to help prevent the uncovered tuber from being eaten. The green colour is from chlorophyll, and is itself harmless. However, it is an indication that increased level of solanine and chaconine may be present. Solanine poisoning is primarily displayed by gastrointestinal and neurological disorders. Symptoms include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach cramps, burning of the throat, headaches and dizziness. Hallucinations, loss of sensation, and paralysis, fever, jaundice, dilated pupils and hypothermia have been reported in more severe cases." I wouldn't be suprised to learn it is a trigger.

Interesting. I am an eater of spuds, fried, mashed and frenched. But, I wonder, who was it that first pulled one from the dirt and thought "Hmmm, interesting root. I think I'll put it in my mouth". P.S. Idaho potatoes come from Nevada.

| That's an important thing for everyone to know. Green potatoes - are toxic and should be avoided at all times. Hard to believe its just where a potatoe was exposed to the sun when growing that causes them to go toxic. Tom

| That was interesting, Matt. Thanks for sharing that! I'm not a great fan of potatoes, so there's another reason for me to avoid them... Sanna
