I'm 57 yrs old and have had CH since my mid 20s. They come about every 2 1/2 to 3 years and last a couple of months. At least once per day, usually at night. Previously took Imitrex and O2 with OK but not great results.

This time around, I am taking prednisone every day. When a headache starts, I take 10mg Maxalt with an Excedrin Migrane. The results have been great. Many headaches are aborted almost immediately, so far (fingers crossed) the others have been fairly mild and lasted a half hour or so. I have even been able to continue playing golf a couple of times, although the heat and humidity seem to agravate things. Only negative is that although the headaches are MUCH less severe than in years past, I'm getting more of them, sometimes two or three per day.

Anyone with similar results?

They work very well in combination and I haven't had nearly as much luck using one or the other alone. The maxalt is expensive, but I have very good coverage.

Any reason not to take both?

excedrin migraine is excedrin with caffeine.
the caffeine is likely the active ingredient for you,
not the acetominophen and/or aspirin...

so maybe go easy on your stomach and wash down your maxalt with a cup of coffee.

and you're also taking Prednisone?
nasty stuff. it had better be working, or it's not worth taking either.  How long have you been on it?

wishing you the best hoopster...

Red Bull or Mountain Dew has a ton of caffeine and  can be a good substitute for the Excedrin. I used to use Excedrin for normal HA. Caffeine and Aspirin is all there is in it.

Caffeine is an abort for some, but not aspirin.

I hope it keeps working for you. Take care.
