Hello,Going nuts !!

Hello all,
My name is Matt and I am going crazy.
My cycle started almost 2 months ago and it is driving absolutely crazy as you all can relate too.
The cycle started when my father entered the hospital for complications with cancer,I tryed to be there for him and deal with my head at the same time,He passed away while I was by his side with my wife and mother. What a disaster dealing with his funeral, death,my mother and my head. It's now been over a month since his death and it is killing me with these F'ing clusters, nothing like feeling the pain of my head explode and thinking of my father at the same time.I am so sick of booting up with imitrex,it's the only thing that works, except for feeling like getting hit by a mack truck side affect.I feel for my wife having to deal with me and my 2 little ones.
I want my F'ing life back,I'm 33 and have dealt with these for 10 years and not looking forward to dealing with them the rest of my life.
Stay strong and all that crap is a bunch of blah blah blah.
Sorry for the rant and nice to meet you,
Matt

Hi Matt. Welcome and sorry you have to be here. I'm sorry about your Dad.
You've come to the right place for lots of info and support. Read everything you can. Over on the left is a link for Oxygen info. Look at it. O2 is a very effective abortive for many of us. Are you taking any preventative meds? Look here for commonly used CH treatments and discuss a prevent with your dr.
http://www.brightok.net/~mnjday/chtherapy.pdf

There are also alternative treatments that work for many. Look at the Medications board for info on kudzu, psilocybin and LSA.
Hang in there. You're not alone. Pain free wishes, nani

You didn't mention any Docs. or treatments being used to control your CHs.  If you aren't getting help you're probably suffering more than necessary.

There's a wealth of treatment options on the site to review and discuss/work with a Doc.

CH is typically a lifelong affliction but there have been some miraculous remissions.

Here's to you being one of the lucky folks that get there.

Hey Matt,
If you are in a cycle, you are just like me and alot of other clusterheads in a cycle, crazy. laugh You have to take care of yourself first before you can even try to take care of anybody else.
I am so sorry for your loss, and I will be prayful for you, but, your father is better off, and you really do know this in your heart of hearts, but you are in a tsunomi (not just a storm) because of your head and your broken heart. Remember it will get easier, take one day at time. Just try to be there for you little ones, and enjoy the headache free days. It doesn't rain forever, Millie laugh

Hiya Matt,

My condolences to you and your family.

I noticed your use of prednisone and imitrex....

Pred. is a transitional med usually used to give us a break while a preventative medication is being built up to hopefully a therapeutic level....

I have recently found some success with the following medication as an abortive. It appears to me that only one other has mentioned its use but hereit goes anyway (I'll take over for Bob J)......Check out this link!

 http://www.clusterheadaches.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=meds;action= display;num=1120904753

This is  a great resource to know like the back of your hand...print it out and give it to your doc

http://www.brightok.net/~mnjday/chtherapy.pdf

It will present the appropriate treatments that you should seek and your doctor should know!!!

If you want an abortive with the least amount of danger/side-effects O2 should not only be requested but demanded from your doctor!!!

http://www.maplefallswebdesign.com/misc/oxygen/oxygen.htm

If you do have the "typical" wake you up in the middle of the night horrors then.... Melatonin might be very helpful
Many of us (myself included) have found that taking 6-9mg (some take more) about a 1/2 hour to 45minutes prior to bed have Knocked out the night visits and can finally get sleep.

With the exception of 10-12 times.....I have slept through the night since August '04 (went chronic in March 05).....Still get hit during the day but my overall quality of life is better because I am not as exhausted all the time.

Some people report that it seems to make them worse....The fact is that we are all different and respond differently to everything therefore it may or may not...

The one thing I will tell you as far as my experience was that I had to stick with it...The first night I took melatonin, I was awoken with a doozy only I was too groggy to find my O2 .....It got a lot better for me....I then slept through the night but would get slammed about 1/2 hour after waking up....kinda like knocking the beast off schedule.....then again I was peaking and this cycle has been all over the place with no real pattern.
I stayed with melatonin and have had decent sleep overall.

It may help and it is natural with not too many sideeffects....also ask your doctor b/c if there are any side effects or contraindications...I think they have to do with mild depression.....

Like I said we are all different.

Best wishes, good luck & stay as positive as you can!!!!

Man, we all hear you and understand what you are going through.  I know you dont want to hear cliches and stuff, but man, you will get to the other side.  Right now your life is consumed by these MFers, but one day it wont be.
Try to stay calm, and maybe try some other drugs that will abort or prevent CHs.  Many drugs are talked about here on this board, you should try taking some.
Just remember, all those nights that you were wishing to put a permanent end to your cycle, all those nights that you wishes your head would explode, just remember that the sun will always rise, and time will always pass.
These things are worse than an alcoholic spouse, totally consume your life.  But you need to get your life back.  Take drugs, do whatever you have to do, but get your life back.
PF wishes
